Another teen drama hits the screen, though this one proves to be quite serious. This eight-episode Italian series follows a group of teenagers in Naples learning to survive at a military academy. The cadets face grueling drills, inspections, competitions, and strict regulations—most notably a fundamental rule: relationships between students from different year groups are forbidden. The school environment is rife with tension as the students yearn for freedom—a freedom that never comes, as Minerva Academy controls every aspect of their lives.
The plot intensifies when the story reveals what happens when discipline crosses the line into humiliation. A power struggle plays out between veteran cadets and newcomers, raising questions about whether harsh traditions truly forge character or simply persist because no one has ever dared to challenge them. Salvo, one of the new cadets, arrives at Minerva determined to find out what happened to his missing friend, Francesco.

Not everyone supports the academy. Laura Canali, a History and Philosophy teacher, questions some of the institution's most deeply ingrained traditions. She encourages students to think for themselves, and throughout the eight episodes, we see various characters who—like her—rebel against established norms. This prompts us to ask key questions: what is the true purpose of such harsh rules? Can they bring happiness to those who abide by them? And shouldn't they be abolished if they prove harmful to those subjected to them? These are just a few of the profound questions that arise while watching the series. The cast delivers an excellent performance.
Through their acting, we can sense the fear, hunger, and rebellious spirit of the characters, whom they bring to life masterfully. So much happens across these eight episodes that, by the time you finish watching, you will find yourself deeply immersed in your own thoughts. That is one of the series' greatest strengths. The creators have successfully infused the plot with intrigue through the mystery surrounding the missing students and the history of the academy. The pacing is also excellent; although each episode runs for nearly an hour, the narrative flows so smoothly that you lose track of time. The episodes are well-connected, so you won't feel like there are any unexpected or disjointed subplots. All in all, *Minerva Academy* is a series well worth watching—it is both well-written and well-developed.
