The end of Maggie and Negan's rescue mission set the stage for the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, proving that the TWD spin-off, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, has much more to tell. The very premise of Dead City—a trip to Manhattan to rescue Maggie's son—gave the impression that a six-episode story was all The Walking Dead spin-off needed. Now that the first season is over, it's clear that Maggie and Negan's journey through Manhattan is meant to be much more than a miniseries. The finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City seemed to be setting up for what looked like a bloody fight between its heroes and its villain, the Croat. Instead, the series took a surprising direction by pitting its two protagonists against each other. No fight with the Croat was necessary, as the Dead City villain surprisingly kept his word and allowed Maggie to walk free with Herschel in tow.
