 It's considered rude to complain about queer coming-of-age dramas, especially when these films come from countries particularly hostile to LGBTQ+ people. Often confused with coming-out dramas, queer cinephiles know their narratives all too well, and sometimes it's hard not to roll their eyes. Little Trouble Girls, the debut film by Slovenian director Urška Djukić, whose title comes from a Sonic Youth song, doesn't boast a particularly original plot.  Lucija (Jara Sofija Ostan) is a shy, virginal 16-year-old with a prominent fringe who hasn't yet started her period. She feels irresistibly drawn to Ana-Marija (Mina Švajger), a popular and vivacious choirmate at her strict Catholic girls' school. This is further fueled by furtive glances in the sunlit gardens and the brush of fingers as they turn the pages of hymn books.
