Kim Kardashian brushed off the harsh criticism of her new legal drama, “All’s Fair,” with a playful Instagram post on Thursday night.
In the post, Kardashian included screenshots of posts on X (formerly Twitter) that both criticized and praised the series, including one that read: “Some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen in my life, along with the most predictable storylines and the most ridiculous costumes. I’m obsessed, I need 14 seasons.”
Creators: Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, Joe Baken
Stars: Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash
Created by Ryan Murphy, “All’s Fair” stars Kardashian as Allura Grant, who joins other divorce lawyers to open an all-female law firm in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Sarah Paulson, and Glenn Close.
“‘All’s Fair’ is a clumsy, condescending take on superficial feminism, half-baked even by the standards of an overworked Murphy, who co-created the series with Joe Baken and Jon Robin Baitz. Admittedly, the tone is intentionally close to camp, and if one squints hard enough, one might discern the vague outlines of a parody. But that’s little consolation when ‘All’s Fair’ demonstrates such a low opinion of its own viewers, assuming we’ll clap like seals when fed disjointed snippets of witty one-liners, flashy outfits, and laments about how bad men are.”
In The Times' zero-star review of the series, titled “All’s Fair review: this might be the worst TV drama ever,” deputy TV editor Ben Dowell wrote: “Well done, Kim. You must have a pretty big ego to star in what might well be the worst TV drama ever made. Because ‘All’s Fair’ (Disney+) is so bad it’s not even entertaining. It thinks it’s a feminist fable about plucky female lawyers getting revenge on rich, cruel men, but it’s actually a tacky, repulsive monument to the very greed, vanity and avarice it supposedly criticizes. It all seems written by a toddler who wouldn’t know how to spell ‘ass’ on a wall.” Several X (formerly Twitter) posts featured in Kardashian’s Instagram post defended “All’s Fair” from the criticism, with one user writing: “Critics realize that their reviews of [‘All’s Fair’] ended up making people watch and love the show.”
“‘All’s Fair’ on Hulu dares to ask: ‘Does a show have to be good?’ and the answer is no, it doesn’t,” another X user wrote. “We have legendary actresses giving the worst performances of their careers; it takes a special kind of talent to achieve that level of incompetence. Incredible!”
“All’s Fair” marks Kardashian’s second collaboration with Murphy after starring in the twelfth season of “American Horror Story,” subtitled “Delicate.” The reality star also serves as an executive producer on the legal drama alongside Murphy.
