Maria Luisa Manuel dies accidentally and is allowed to return to her former life only if she lives as a housewife for a month.
If you think this is the title of a song, you’re mistaken. But get ready, because a great movie awaits you. Maria Luisa Manuel, a lawyer who lost her father at a young age, is clear about one thing: she doesn't want to be like the rest of her family. That is why she works so hard to become who she is today: a wealthy, successful woman.
Director: RC Delos Reyes
Writers: Easy Ferrer, Rod Marmol
Stars: Jerald Napoles, Kim Molina, Al Tantay
However, things don't go according to plan. While she is driving, a cat suddenly jumps in front of her moving car, causing her death. Shortly after, she realizes she has arrived at the afterlife's sorting center. Upon reaching heaven, even the officials are surprised to see her there ahead of schedule, as it turns out her name was confused with that of Mary Jane Alcantara.
She refuses to accept her death, fearing she won't be able to meet pending deadlines and commitments. She is allowed to return to the land of the living, but on one condition: she must live as a married housewife for a month until her case is rectified. She must bear in mind that, during that month, she cannot return to her old life or do any work related to it. But upon arriving on Earth, she dislikes her appearance and, to make matters worse, she has a husband. And what’s even worse? She has two children. The only thing she remembers is her past life; she retains no memories of the new one. This leads to a series of comic situations and mix-ups. Little by little, she begins to enjoy the family life she never really had, and to her surprise, she discovers she likes it.
*Wonderful Nightmare* is one of those movies that, even if watched only once, leaves you feeling like you’ve received a warm hug. Watching Maria Luisa Manuel’s transformation from an arrogant lawyer into a loving mother and wife was a truly worthwhile experience. I loved how her character developed from start to finish; she struggled to adapt at first, but soon she didn't want to leave. It is moving to see how much love and warmth she holds within. There is a striking difference in how she perceives her life at the beginning of the film compared to the end. The movie highlights the importance of emotional richness in life—something fundamental for young people today.
*Wonderful Nightmare* strikes a magnificent balance between comedy and emotion. It is a true pleasure to watch a film where both elements are perfectly balanced, allowing the depth of the story to shine through. The pacing is also consistent; at no point did the plot drag or feel unnecessarily drawn out. The film’s overall execution reflects careful planning.
The cast is excellent as well. Every actor—whether in a lead or supporting role—does a fantastic job bringing their character to life. They do full justice to the story, which is the film's greatest strength. Ultimately, if you are looking for something lighthearted, free of melodrama, and easy to watch, *Wonderful Nightmare* is exactly what you need right now.
