The story is decent and entertaining, but it completely lacks the charm and excitement of the first two installments. It feels somewhat watered-down and smaller in scope compared to the previous titles.
Performances and character treatment: The lead actress (Millie Bobby Brown) delivers a good performance, making the film watchable. However, no other character truly stands out. The biggest disappointment is the treatment of the protagonist's brother, Sherlock Holmes. Despite being the world's greatest detective, his character is completely underutilized. He is portrayed as a weak, helpless man who is easily kidnapped and appears entirely ineffective throughout the film. Even the returning villain lacks impact and feels like a wasted opportunity.
Director: Philip Barantini
Writers: Jack Thorne, Nancy Springer
Stars: Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter
Emotional impact: The film fails to establish a strong emotional connection with the audience. The protagonist is on the verge of marrying her future husband (Tewkesbury), and although his mother is kidnapped, there is no sense of emotional weight or bond between them. The stakes feel insignificant, and there is no genuine tension or concern for the characters.
The main problem: The overall execution lacks punch and impactful plot twists. The mystery is too simple, and everything unfolds in a very predictable manner. For a franchise of this magnitude, the script, character dynamics, and handling of a legendary figure like Sherlock could have been much better.
Verdict and rewatch value: It is a "watch once and pass the time" kind of movie. It is fun for a casual viewing but offers nothing extraordinary to warrant a rewatch.
