A wealthy heiress can see a ghost who died without finding justice.
While the premise sounds interesting, the plot of *Spooky in Love* is something we’ve seen time and again in K-dramas, blending romance, mystery, supernatural fantasy, and crime. The story centers on Cheon Yeo Ri, the heiress to one of South Korea’s most powerful conglomerates and the CEO of a prestigious luxury hotel. To the outside world, she projects the image of a wealthy, successful, and intelligent woman. However, appearances are deceiving.

Behind that public persona lies a burden she has carried in silence her entire life: the ability to see ghosts. Every night, restless spirits who met tragic or violent ends come to her, pleading for justice. Cheon Yeo Ri tells no one, fearing they won't believe her encounters. Enter Ma Gang Uk, an elite prosecutor dedicated to upholding and fighting for justice. His world is built on facts, evidence, and the law. Everything is fine until he meets Cheon Yeo Ri and discovers her supernatural abilities. Needless to say, the two have opposite personalities. Only the first episode has aired so far, but it already introduces elements that hint at what’s to come as the plot unfolds.
That is the only issue with *Spooky in Love*. As I mentioned, it’s the kind of plot we’ve seen many times before, and I was hoping for something better and different. Still, let’s wait for the remaining episodes to air; who knows, we might be in for a surprise. That said, there are also positive aspects I appreciated in the first episode. For instance, the creators don’t wait for later chapters to introduce all the key characters. Furthermore, the plot moves forward significantly in this opening episode, saving us from having to wait too long to see what happens next.
The supernatural elements provide the necessary twists to the story. There are deeper motives yet to be revealed. Each ghost that appears has a reason for doing so—primarily, to demand justice. United through Cheon Yeo Ri, who acts as a medium, they seek to reclaim what they lost before leaving this world for good; this aspect makes the series worth watching. The pacing of *Spooky in Love* is generally good, though it falters slightly at times. Some scenes move at a perfect pace while others drag, which can be a bit annoying for the viewer; however, I think this is a detail that is easily overlooked.
The series is also a visual treat. The cast's costumes, the sets, and the eerie atmosphere successfully convey exactly the mood the creators intended. Ultimately, even if you might figure out the plot as it progresses, the series is worth watching at least once to appreciate how the story unfolds.
