Netflix’s *Untold: UK – Vinnie Jones* is a polished and surprisingly captivating documentary that examines the life and career of Vinnie Jones, spanning both his years in football and his transition into acting. Even for someone like me—who has never been a huge football fan—the documentary proved to be a very enjoyable watch, largely because Vinnie himself possesses such an extraordinary and commanding personality.
The documentary does a solid job of showing how he rose to fame as one of the toughest and most controversial players in English football, before making the leap to Hollywood and forging a second career as an actor. It strikes an excellent balance between his football persona and his entertainment career, ensuring it never feels as though it is aimed exclusively at die-hard football fans. That was, without a doubt, a major plus for me.
Personally, I have always preferred Vinnie Jones as an actor rather than as a football figure. One of my favorite performances of his was in *EuroTrip*, a film in which he completely stole the show in every single scene he appeared in. Somehow, the man managed to portray a deranged football hooligan who was simultaneously intimidating and hilarious. I also thought he was fantastic in the underrated action film *The Condemned*. That movie never seemed to get the attention it deserved, but Vinnie played his role brilliantly, bringing a genuinely rugged and visceral charisma to the screen.
What makes this documentary work is the sense that it was crafted with care and thoughtfulness, rather than being thrown together in a rush. The interviews are well-presented, the narrative pacing is fluid, and the production quality remains high from start to finish. It offers sufficient context for those unfamiliar with his football career, while simultaneously reminding viewers why he subsequently became such a recognizable face in the world of cinema.
Ultimately, this is a solid documentary and a highly recommended watch—regardless of whether you know Vinnie Jones primarily for his football career or for his films. More than anything, it reminded me that he still possesses a powerful screen presence, and honestly, it would be fantastic to see him appear in more movies in the future.
