Six lives intertwine through shared experiences of love, pain, and resilience over the course of a single day in Mexico City.
This must be a very moving story, one that hasn't been seen in a long time. At its heart are the lives of six people over the course of a single day in Mexico City. And while you might think, "What can you possibly gain from observing the lives of six women?", prepare to experience a profound shift. We see the life of a young woman yearning to break free from the constraints that bind her. Then, we see the life of a mother forced to confront a family truth.

The question is: can she handle the truth and continue with her normal life? The next storyline is my personal favorite, where an Uber driver unexpectedly becomes involved in someone else's life simply because he overheard a conversation. It's not that the driver is willingly involved; the situation feels more like a forced connection. After that, we move to the lives of two strangers whose paths cross, much like most of us do. They meet just as they've already faced enough hardship. What will their story hold for us? And the main question is: will life bring all these people together?
There are many Bollywood films based on similar themes. And each time you watch them, you won't feel like they're just repeating themselves. The point is that films like these are charged with emotion. The human struggles the filmmakers present are something any ordinary person will experience and relate to. In these cases, the execution of the plot is very delicate, because if it's not done well, people might reject it immediately. Fortunately, Rodrigo Garcia delivers the best of the plot. It's sensitive, serene, yet unsettling. In short, we feel a range of emotions as we watch these women captivate our screens with their stories.
One of the key aspects is the steady pace. The film isn't too fast or too slow, giving us just enough time to see what we want to see. It's imbued with a certain comfort that can only be truly appreciated by watching it. The creators also address mental health through the plot in a very beautiful way. Mental health is one of the central themes of the story.
Another strong point is the acting. The cast, including Cassandra Ciangherotti, Ilse Salas, Naian González Norvind, and Alfredo Castro, among others, shines in their respective roles. They are the reason the film is worth watching. Sometimes, the plot or the actors are good. However, The Follies achieves both and captures the audience's attention. I love it when cities also become characters in a film. The Follies does just that. The beautiful Mexico City is also a seventh character that, I must say, fits perfectly into the plot. This film is definitely worth watching for its six interconnected stories. The pain and resilience portrayed are so beautiful that there won't be a single moment when you want to skip ahead.
