A group of warriors are sent to a remote temple where their mission is to survive until they reach Tokyo and win a huge prize.
So, dear viewers, if you've seen series like Shogun and Squid Game, this one will seem predictable. The plot is as follows: set during the Meiji Restoration in Japan, a group of warriors is summoned to a remote temple. There, they are forced to participate in a competition where each is given a wooden tag and must follow one rule: steal each other's tags and survive until Tokyo. Once there, they can claim a prize of 100 billion won.
Stars: Taichi Saotome, Jun'ichi Okada, Yumia Fujisaki
However, as in other similar series, the protagonist participates in the game not for wealth, but to save his family and his village. This plot offers nothing new. I remember seeing something very similar many times. And, of course, there has to be a protagonist who doesn't play to "win," but for his village and his family. How lovely! And of course, the games included in these kinds of shows are anything but easy. This is also predictable.
On the positive side, the survival plot is fun and intriguing. Watching them run around trying to get money and survive is entertaining. The pacing is good, which keeps you from getting bored. The production is also impressive. To be honest, that's the main thing. The filming is one of the key factors that makes it worth watching. There are plenty of fight scenes, blood everywhere, and everything you'd expect from a show like this. Another aspect I particularly liked was how they explored samurai culture and showed the role of women. That historical aspect is important for raising awareness.
Now, on the negative side, the plot is quite boring. We all know what's going to happen and what to expect. That makes it a bit tedious to watch. It's as if they changed the country of origin but kept the basic plot structure. So, ultimately, we don't see much. It can be a bit frustrating, and honestly, I don't understand why the creators kept the basic plot so similar. I also missed the excitement and suspense. Everything was presented in a predictable way, leaving very little room for speculation. In short, it was a disappointment for this historical series.
However, if you enjoy this type of series, you might like it. You might rediscover the joy of games, even though you already know the plot.
