Vivieno Caldinelli's hilarious "Scared Shitless" is a horror-comedy with a giant monster and plenty of scatological humor. Actual scatological humor. There are more plumbing jokes than poop jokes! And who are you going to call when an unstoppable, human-eating creature crawls out of the toilet to devour your loved ones in one bite? This isn't a job for an exorcist. The Ghostbusters can't help you. For something this twisted, your only recourse is to call those intrepid experts who make the world go round. Those working-class heroes who fearlessly charge into battle: The Plumbers.
With slimy creatures designed and created by Steven Kostanski, director of Psycho Gorman (who has a new film of his own at Fantasia this year), "Scared Shitless" is a gory special effects romp. The monster, an otherworldly worm creature created in a secret lab by legendary Canadian comedian Mark McKinney (Kids in the Hall), travels through a building's pipes to emerge and devour anyone unlucky enough to be, uh... occupied at the time. What begins as a routine service call for unsuspecting plumbers Don and Sonny (Steven Ogg and Daniel Doheny) quickly turns into a rescue mission, with the residents devoured like takeout from the toilet tank!

Scared Shitless is a must-see for horror fans with an insatiable love of gory, goofy gags. But it's going to be a real shock for anyone who's recently been in contact with a Canadian parent. Honestly, half of Scared Shitless's funniest moments are in the choice of songs for its needle drops. If you've ever sat in the passenger seat of a minivan while a man over 50 drummed behind the wheel to The Kings' "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide," or if you've seen your uncles play air guitar to Loveryboy's "Turn Me Loose" at least once this summer, Scared Shitless will feel very familiar.
Steven Ogg (whom genre fans will recognize as Simon from The Walking Dead or the deranged game show host from V/H/S/99) plays the classic middle-class dad just trying to make a living, and maybe make a few people smile while he does it. He takes pride in his work (like all tradesmen, he's quick to point out how the world would fall apart without plumbers) and hopes to pass the baton on to his son, Sonny. Of course, Sonny has stomach issues, anxiety, and a real problem with germs, which definitely doesn't make plumbing a nightmare for him. At the forefront, joining them in their fistfight with this horrifying beast, is Patricia (Ginny and Georgia), the building's owner, caretaker, and, in fact, a total hooligan. In the same vein as Sting from earlier this year, Scared Shitless takes advantage of its small space to create shocking scenes and an avalanche of laugh-out-loud gags from its eccentric cast.
If you like shocking creature effects, practical gore, and a good laugh, Scared Shitless is the horror movie you'll be showing your friends over a couple of beers next weekend (or whenever it's released). It's hilarious and never lets up on the gas. From start to finish, people are ripped apart, swallowed whole, and dragged kicking and screaming into a watery, absurd death. Scared Shitless is the funniest thing you'll see in the bathroom this year!
