Old Money 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Nihal came from a wealthy family, but unfortunately, after some bad business dealings, her father fell into debt. The only solution left for them was to sell their coastal mansion to the Bulut family. They were new to the business but had already built a reputation. Netflix's new Turkish romance series, Old Money, focuses on the clash between the wealthy and the newcomers.

At first, Nihal was willing to sell the mansion, but when her friend Engin reminded her that it was her responsibility to preserve it, as it had been in the family for generations and held emotional value, she agreed that she should resist. Nihal realized that the Bulut family had commissioned them to build a yacht because they knew they didn't have the money to fulfill the request. And if they didn't fulfill their promise, they would have no choice but to repay their debt by selling them the mansion.

Stars: Engin Akyürek, Asli Enver, Dolunay Soysert

Nihal's father admitted that he had made a terrible mistake by accepting the commission; he believed the project would help him pay off some of his debt. Instead of selling the mansion, Nihal decided to give up the yacht, but she had no idea how to do it.

Arda, the youngest of the Bulut family, was madly in love with Berna, the CFO of her company. Berna came from a wealthy family, but she quickly accepted that the Bulut family had the drive for success they lacked. She had built an impressive resume after training at the most prestigious institutions, and she wasn't afraid to use her talents to help a new company grow, as long as it was well taken care of. Unlike Engin, who always focused on "us" versus "them," she held no prejudices against her boss.

Arda had always been quite open about her feelings for Berna. After some persuasion, Berna agreed to go on a date with him. They connected instantly, and although Berna was hesitant at first to start an affair with her boss, she eventually gave in. Arda didn't feel the need to hide their relationship, but Berna wasn't sure if she wanted to speak to him publicly. At first, he assumed she didn't want her colleagues to know about their relationship because they would think she was having an unfair advantage over them, but he soon realized she was embarrassed to be seen with him.

He surmised that she didn't want to be with him because they didn't come from the same background. Arda decided to distance herself from Berna and ended up sleeping with another woman at work. Seeing Arda with another woman made Berna jealous, and she realized she had fallen for him. Considering she had always been receptive to associating with the "new fortune," she realized how unfair it was to reject someone just because they didn't come from a wealthy family. In the latest episode of Old Money, Berna finally worked up the courage to reveal her feelings for Arda in front of her colleagues. She wanted him to know she wasn't afraid, and Arda couldn't help but blush after her grand gesture. Berna and Arda no longer hesitated to admit to the world that they were in love.

Mahir, the eldest of the Bulut family, was an irascible adrenaline junkie, whose eyes burned with constant rage. This feeling of anger and disappointment stemmed from his childhood trauma. Siblings Mahir, Osman, and Arda survived a devastating earthquake. Despite coming from different families, fate brought them together. Mathematics teacher Songul Isikci was among the four survivors of the 42 residents who lived in the Bulut Apartments. She adopted the three children, and together they tried to recover from the tragedy.

Of the three children, Mahir was the only one old enough to remember his life before the earthquake. He came from a humble family and earned a little extra money by removing garbage, among other chores. After the earthquake, his life changed for the better, and he didn't know how to feel about it. The tragedy that separated families and claimed lives gave him a second chance, and he always felt uneasy about this strange contradiction. He was supposed to be sent back to his village to help his grandfather after another year of school. And here he was, building one of the fastest-growing companies in Istanbul, and he couldn't help but feel like an imposter.

Mahir had been dating Asli, an up-and-coming singer. He was open about his feelings, and although she understood, there were days when all she wanted was for him to stay. Mahir feared attachment: tragedy had made him cautious, and every time Asli tried to make a move, he pushed her away. But he couldn't stop thinking about her. When a journalist alleged that Asli had stolen one of his songs, Mahir ended up assaulting him.

His anger was misdirected, as he didn't even show up for Asli's concert, despite being aware of how much it would have meant to her. Later, when Mahir saw a video of Asli and her arranger apparently together, he was completely devastated. Asli had tried to get over him, but she couldn't stop thinking about Mahir, and in the end, she decided to confront him. Mahir admitted that he was deeply in love with her and that he had been foolish to try to distance himself from her. In the end, Asli decided to give Mahir a chance, and they sealed the deal with a kiss.

Nihal wanted to build the yacht, but his company didn't have the money to do so. He tried to apply for a loan, but due to his father's existing debt, no one was willing to take a risk on his project. Osman, the decision-maker in the Bulut family, was smitten with her from their first meeting. He was a greedy businessman, but when it came to Nihal, he couldn't be as aggressive with deals as he usually was.

The only memory Osman had of his mother was seeing the mansion by the sea during a boat ride with her, and he remembered her telling him how happy the inhabitants were. Osman also remembered the little girl he'd seen waving at him and the mansion in the background. He wanted to buy the same mansion, but he didn't expect to be amazed by the little girl with beetle hairpins (Nihal) he'd seen from the boat. He secretly got her a loan so she could focus on building the yacht without having to give up her house.

While Nihal was initially pleasantly surprised by the recent development, she soon realized Osman was behind it and accused him of manipulating her. She didn't want to be at his mercy and couldn't imagine a romantic relationship with a man already trying to impose his authority over her. Osman announced that if she didn't deliver the yacht on time, he would keep the mansion to cover the debt he owed them. They started from scratch again, and Nihal focused on building the yacht. She accepted the loan and got to work.

Soon, Osman tried to fix things between them, and it only worked for a short time. Nihal was in love with Osman and didn't want their time together to end. He wasn't the ruthless monster everyone believed him to be; with Nihal, he was caring and sweet. But Nihal started overthinking things after one of his ex-girlfriends told her that Osman preferred short flings and that she shouldn't take their relationship too seriously.

At first, Nihal ignored her, but gradually she began to wonder if he was truly in love with her or if he just desperately wanted to be a part of her world. Perhaps he considered their relationship a mutually beneficial one, and she didn't know how to feel about it. When she heard him book her favorite room in Taormina, she assumed it was the infamous "Taormina getaway," after which he usually broke up with his girlfriends. She thought her suspicion was right; he wasn't serious about her. Nihal decided to distance himself from Osman once again, and this time Engin intervened.

Engin had been in love with Nihal for years. He always thought that, after all their brief relationships, she would eventually choose him. So, naturally, she was extremely worried when Nihal started having feelings for Osman. Not only was he a competitor in business, but he also challenged men like him, from wealthy families. But after discovering that Nihal had broken up with Osman, he decided to propose to her. She first spoke to Nihal's father and convinced him that he was the right man for her. She also suggested selling the mansion to Osman to clear all her remaining debts so that Nihal could start a new life without worrying about settling her father's.

After her father's acceptance, Engin finally worked up the courage to be honest about her feelings for Nihal. She never took his interest seriously, but when he mentioned that he would never abandon her, no matter what, she thought a stable marriage was better than a hopeless relationship. Nihal considered giving it a chance, and they decided to go to Europe to spend time together. Meanwhile, Osman was devastated to learn about Nihal and Engin. He no longer cared about the mansion; he just wanted to be with her. Mahir suggested that he put his ego aside and confess his feelings to her.

Nihal hoped the news of her departure would upset Osman and that he would finally try to talk to her, but her father told her that when she mentioned the proposal, Osman didn't care. She assumed he never cared, although she discovered that his assumption about Taormina was false. He wasn't booking the room for them; he was just Arda's partner. She hoped he would at least make an effort to talk to her one last time, putting his ego aside, but she was disappointed. In the end, we don't see Nihal and Engin together at the airport, but considering that her father had already decided to give up his mansion to secure his future with Engin, it (possibly) isn't just gossip spread by Engin and Nihal's father. It's likely that the European trip proposal was, after all, true.

Meanwhile, Osman realized he had to fix things with Nihal. Not only was he in love with her, but he also felt the need to hold on to the only person he remembered before tragedy changed his life. Nihal was the girl he waved to from the boat as a child, and he believed they were meant to be together. Osman boarded his boat and headed for Nihal's mansion. The waves were relentless, and he ended up briefly losing consciousness after hitting his head on the side of the boat. In that brief moment, Osman suddenly remembered his mother's face. He didn't have a picture of her, and he had spent most of his life feeling guilty for not having any memories of his childhood.

During the end of Old Money, after Osman regained consciousness, he drove to Nihal's mansion and found his father there. He gave Osman the key to the mansion; he was ready to part with it for the sake of his daughter. Osman was devastated to discover that Nihal was already gone. The eight-episode series ends with Osman throwing away the key to the mansion. Although she always dreamed of living in one of the seaside mansions, she never thought it would be difficult to lose the love of her life.

The tragic ending of Old Money can also be interpreted as a hint of a second season. In the second season, Nihal will likely realize, after his European tour, that even though he wanted to move on and have a relationship with Engin, a safe option, he can't stop thinking about Osman. Perhaps Osman will also strive to get back with Nihal, and although there will be ups and downs, the lovers ending up together is the most obvious ending imaginable. The second season may also explore the prejudice society has against middle-aged women seeking love with younger men after Songul decides to go public with their relationship. Berda will likely introduce Arda to her family, and she may have a hard time winning them over. Considering Asli's popularity, Mahir may find it difficult to adjust to her fame, especially after they go public together.
