This series excited me greatly, as Kim Woo-Bin and Bae Suzy finally shared the screen after almost a decade since its last premiere. So, going straight to the plot, Genie, Make a Wish revolves around Iblis, played by Kim Woo-Bin, who plays a genie, and Ka-young, played by Bae Suzy.
Iblis awakens after a thousand years, intent on proving the corrupt nature of humanity. He decides to take a risk: if he can tempt human selfishness by granting three wishes, he will finally be free from the shackles that bind him. His sole goal is to prove that humans are the worst creatures in existence. Now enters the scene Ka-young, a woman who is difficult to corrupt.

Even in her past lives, the Genie couldn't corrupt her. Now that's a problem for him, as he finds it increasingly difficult to prove it. Ka-young is also different, as she doesn't actually have any wishes to ask for. She has everything she needs and, at first glance, seems content with her life.
Now you might be wondering why Ka-young is the only one chosen. Well, the creators knew what fans wanted to see and decided to give it to us. Iblis remembers his past love, dating back to the Goryeo era, now tied to Ka-young's soul. So in her, he sees the love of his life. The question is simple: will Iblis prove himself right? Will he and Ka-young acknowledge their love for each other? I won't give any spoilers because then there'd be no point in watching the series, but once you start watching, the ending is quite predictable.
To be honest, the series lacks logic. Many moments and scenes seem unfounded, and you're left trying to connect the dots to understand what exactly is going on. Also, from the beginning, the plot fails to capture your attention. It lacks that powerful momentum that catches your eye. The pace is slow. One scene drags on and on, which can be very boring. Also, the mixing of past and present lives creates a certain amount of confusion, as the transition isn't seamless.
Even the ending feels rushed, as the creators didn't want to break our hearts. So they made something that barely makes sense, but simply serves its purpose of keeping us satisfied. But what's the point if the series doesn't give us what we expect? Given the star-studded cast, many people had high expectations that weren't met. Yes, it makes you wonder, even if only for a second, if humans are really the most selfish creatures of all.
However, the point Iblis wanted to make is a bit difficult to grasp. It's hard to understand whether the intention behind airing the first episode and the last one are actually related. The plot is a bit off-kilter. Ultimately, if you want to relive the memories of watching Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy on screen, this series can help. But even then, how long can you ignore a basic plot? The cast can only work their magic up to a point. After that, it's up to us to see what the creators bring us.
