If you happened to watch Dexter: Original Sin, you already know that Dexter Morgan didn't die from the fatal bullet. Lying in the hospital, struggling with life and death, his whole life flashed before his eyes. He recalled his time as a teenager trying to learn the "code of murder" developed by his adoptive father, Harry Morgan. The final season, Dexter: Resurrection, took place about ten weeks after his son, Harrison Morgan, tried to kill him in the woods. Ironically, a harsh winter saved the life of a cold-blooded killer.
Dexter was taken down in freezing temperatures, where the cold and snow slowed his heart rate and put him into what you might call "ice sleep." All of this slowed the blood loss, and when authorities took him to the Seneca Nation clinic, Dexter was still alive. For the past ten weeks, Dexter had been in a coma, talking to voices in his head. Not that he was guilty of anything. Psychopaths or sociopaths like him aren't capable of that. Through these conversations, Dexter was mainly trying to confirm the nobility of his life.

By killing other killers, he was saving the lives of their future victims. He still couldn't accept that his own son had tried to kill him. He didn't care about his life, but the idea of his son one day becoming a serial killer deeply disturbed him, and he desperately wanted to wake up and save his son from the demons he inherited from his father. Well, good news: after ten weeks, Dexter had finally recovered. He had gone through hell and managed to rise again. In short, Dexter was back.
Episode 1 of Dexter: Resurrection revealed that Harrison had left Iron Lake weeks earlier for New York City, where he began working as a bellhop at the Empire Hotel. With nowhere to stay, he squatted in one of the vacant rooms every night. And amidst all the chaos, Harrison had even managed to graduate from high school. Brilliant guy. Let's cut to the chase. A woman named Shauna had arrived from Iowa to attend an urgent care conference at the hotel.
She was nice to Harrison, which is why he remembered her when he saw Shauna with another guest, Ryan Foster, who considered her his life. Harrison knew he was blatantly lying because earlier that morning, he had seen him with another girl, which made him suspicious of Ryan's intentions. When Ryan asked Harrison to help him take the drunk Shauna to her room, Harrison realized he'd spiked her drink at the bar and was going to rape her. Harrison wanted to intervene, but he also didn't want to get into more trouble. Fortunately, he decided to confront Ryan and ask him to let Shauna back into her room.
The fact was, this wasn't the first time Ryan had attempted sexual assault. He was a repeat offender, with numerous similar accusations under his belt. But because he was a powerful man, he'd gotten away with it and was offending again. Harrison, however, didn't know this. He wasn't following his father's precepts or trying to act like a rogue vigilante. He just wanted to protect Shauna. Perhaps Harrison shared his father's psychopathic tendencies and had "dark passengers" who hadn't yet emerged. Or maybe he was just angry, as Dexter thought. Either way, Harrison snapped as soon as Ryan said, "There's plenty more where she came from." Perhaps this gave Harrison the impression that Ryan was going to do it again and again because he believed himself invincible. That's when Harrison lost control and ended up killing the sexual predator on the spot.
During his short stay in Iron Lake, Dexter had taught him much of the "code," which involved targeting the prey, capturing them, and disposing of the body. As soon as Harrison realized his grave error, he remembered his father's lessons on how to dispose of a victim's body. He first took the stunned Shauna to his room, then returned to Ryan's with cleaning supplies to wipe up the blood or remove any traces of DNA. Later, he took Ryan's body to the hotel kitchen and cut it into nine pieces, just as his father preferred. This is an important detail because later in the episode, when Dexter heard about a man being cut into nine pieces, he had a hunch that it might have been his son who killed the man, as Ryan Foster fit the "code." But as I said earlier, this wasn't something Harrison intended to do, but he went through with it, succumbing to his instincts.
The officers arrived at the hotel to investigate the crime scene and find any trace of the killer who might have murdered Ryan. Well, I'm sure they weren't going to find anything conclusive, but Wallace noticed the bellboy, who had been acting quite nervous, so he might have some questions for him. I mean, we know Harrison had Ryan's watch, but even the hotel manager saw Ryan handing it to Harrison to be fixed, so it was just a red herring. Besides, Dexter was already in town, which meant he'd do everything he could to cover his tracks and save his son from arrest.
While Dexter was in a coma, the hospital staff informed his close friends and family in case they wanted to see him one last time. That's how an old friend of Dexter's from the Miami Police Department, Detective Angel Batista, learned that Dexter was still alive. About 10 years ago, Dexter faked his death to start over in Iron Lake under a new identity, but an unexpected visit from his son turned everything upside down. Former Iron Lake Sheriff Angela Bishop, who was dating Dexter, suspected he was the Bay Harbor Butcher and informed Batista.
This wasn't the first time Batista heard such an accusation against Dexter, which made him believe such a rumor might be true. He wanted to investigate further to get to the bottom of it. However, he couldn't have pressed charges against a dead man, could he? So, before visiting Dexter, Batista revoked his death certificate, legally resurrecting him. In the Dexter: Resurrection episode 1 finale, when Dexter learned of the gruesome murder in New York and suspected Harrison's involvement, he couldn't help but run away from the hospital, wanting to be there for his son on his "first murder," just as his father, Harry, was there for him. But Batista almost certainly won't let Dexter escape again and will continue to follow him until he's certain his old friend isn't the Bay Harbor Butcher.
At the end of episode 1, Uma Thurman, who has been credited as Charley, appears in the series. We see her surveilling a suspicious man, who is later revealed to be a psychopathic killer. In a brief but omnibus scene, she breaks into this man's house and finds a hidden bag containing the IDs of all his victims. Well, serial killers love tokens, right? And Dexter is no different. Remember the blood samples? From the looks of it, Charley seems like a pro working for some bigwig.
She leaves an invitation in the bag, likely inviting the psychopathic killer to an event on behalf of her boss. So, you might ask, what does Dexter have to do with this? Well, I think whoever Charley's boss is might occasionally use expert serial killers or contract killers, or maybe he's been setting a trap for people like them who kill innocent people in cold blood. Well, Dexter fits the bill, so it's pretty obvious that Charley or his boss will get in touch with Dexter soon. And what they really want from him will be revealed in the upcoming episodes.
