Andrés Pepe Estrada co-directs the feature film, which is executive produced by the late Norman Lear.

Directors: Juan Pablo Di Pace, Andrés Pepe Estrada
Writers: Juan Pablo Di Pace, Andrés Pepe Estrada
Stars: Juan Pablo Di Pace, Santiago Madrussan, Oscar Morgan
“Before I Forget” is a stunningly beautiful depiction of how we try (and sometimes fail) to remember every detail of our first loves. Di Pace stars in the film as MatÃas, an Argentine filmmaker grappling with an unfinished film inspired by his friendship with a Swedish classmate he met at boarding school in 1997. As the synopsis foreshadows, "Their bond, defined by tenderness and fascination, is abruptly shattered when Alexander (Oscar Morgan) is expelled, leaving young MatÃas (Santiago Madrussan) with a history of unspoken emotions. Twenty-five years later, MatÃas reopens Pandora's box and comes face to face with Alexander (August Wittgenstein) once again. As life begins to imitate art, MatÃas finds himself drawn into a deeply personal portrait of the past, memory, and the elusive search for closure."
The film travels through time, with the characters of MatÃas and Alexander shared by two of the aforementioned actors. The roles of Roma and Paolo are also played by actors: in Roma, Araceli González and Marta Beatriz Maineri play the mother at different ages, while Paolo is played by Tomás Kirzner in his youth and Juan Cruz Márquez de la Serna in the present day. The cast also includes Fabián Mazzei, Sarah Parish, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Julia Bender, Krista Kosonen, Vittorio Di Pace, Lini Evans, Agustina Lecouna, and JoaquÃn Gaitán.
Actor and now writer-director Juan Pablo Di Pace makes his feature film debut with a romance that spans decades. The actor co-directs "Antes del olvido" with Andrés Pepe Estrada ("Argentina, 1985") from a script he wrote himself; the iconic Norman Lear, who passed away in 2023, serves as executive producer.

Filmmaker Di Pace told IndieWire that “Before I Forget” is his own “cinematic response” to Claude Debussy’s “The Afternoon of a Faun.”
“There’s a delicate longing in that music: a dreamy, adolescent longing for someone with a sacred sensuality,” Di Pace said. “That quality, both epic and intimate, became the guide for the tone of our film.”
Regarding the personal nature of the drama, Di Pace added, “I think every storyteller leaves a mark on their work. In our case, Andrés, my co-director, and I wanted to tell a story based on our own experiences. We were inspired by people we knew, places we loved, and situations that were very close to home. That way, we were able to put ourselves in the shoes of each character and tell something authentic. The inspiration came from a personal place: the adult remembering a memory they can’t forget. Something that stays in your memory, not because it’s dramatic, but because it’s too vivid.”
The Film Collaborative will premiere “Before We Forget” in New York on July 11, in Los Angeles on July 18, and in other markets on July 25.
