Uninvited 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The Filipino mystery-crime thriller "Uninvited" tells the story of a mother driven by revenge. Lilia Capistrano was a single mother, whose life revolved around her daughter, Lily. They planned to travel to Korea together, and Lily insisted that her mother also learn the language. Life was going well until one day, Lily and her boyfriend, Tofy, disappeared. Their bodies were later found in a field. When Lilia discovered that Lily and Tofy were brutally tortured before being murdered, she decided to get revenge. Lilia had no one to call family after her daughter's death, and she felt she'd rather risk her life to find those responsible for Lily's death than do nothing about it.

Lilia's mother, Norma, and Tofy, bonded over the loss of their children. Norma decided to move to Canada to live with her extended family, but before leaving, she told Lilia that her cousin, a police officer, had told her that a shady billionaire, Vega, had murdered his children. He prided himself on raping teenagers, and Lily was one of his many victims. Lily and Tofy were studying together in a café when one of Vega's men, Jomar Maitim, spotted her. Vega's gang followed the couple into a dark alley and kidnapped them. Lily tried to resist, but finally gave in when she realized there was no way out. Vega raped Lily and then ordered his men to kill her and Tofy. The police helped him cover his tracks, and he continued to indulge his perverse desire. Vega kept mementos of his victims in his safe and often looked at them with pride.

Lilia kept a list of Vega's victims and soon learned that Tanya, one of them, had committed suicide. She contacted Tanya's father, Elmer, and he expressed his frustration at being unable to do anything to help his daughter. Lilia promised to avenge all of Vega's victims. When Lilia mentioned the names of Vega's gang members, Elmer pointed out that he missed Jomar Maitem, the scout. Lilia decided to put her plan of revenge into action, starting with Maitem. She ran him over with her car and, before crushing him, showed him a photo of his daughter and reminded him of her heinous crimes. Maitem begged Lilia to spare his life, claiming he wasn't as bad as the rest of the gang; she refused to listen. Lilia crushed Maitem to death, and knew she would have to take out the rest of the gang along with Vega immediately.

Lilia was Vega's unexpected guest at his 55th birthday party. She posed as Eva Candelaria, one of the largest donors to Katrina's (Vega's wife) foundation. At first, Lilia was a little intimidated by the security at the party, but she decided to improvise and make do. She didn't bring her weapon, but figured the dagger she was carrying would be enough to take down the men. Her first target at the party was Vega's bodyguard, Celso Batac. She followed him out of the party as he headed for the basement. She stabbed him in the back, and while he managed to grab his gun, Lilia successfully threw it away and stabbed him a couple more times in the abdomen. Before he bled out, she showed him Lily's photo and reminded him that he was paying the price for his misdeeds. Lilia slit his throat and let him bleed out. Randall Ballesteros, a corrupt cop, recognized Lilia at the party. He had seen her following Celso, so he decided to check on him. Seeing Celso's lifeless body, he realized his hunch was right and began searching for Lilia. Meanwhile, Vega noticed that his wife, Katrina, had disappeared from the party. He had recently learned of her affair with his assistant, Jigger Zulueta, and was keeping a close eye on them. After Katrina returned to the party, Vega decided to speak with Jigger. He expressed his deep sadness over her behavior. The idea of them being physically intimate while her birthday party was still in progress unsettled him. While Jigger swore loyalty to his boss, Vega refused to trust him. He pulled out his gun and, frustrated, shot him repeatedly.

When Randall saw Lilia in the establishment with a gun in her hand, he started shooting at her. Lilia was shot in the arm, but she didn't give up. Randall mistakenly ended up shooting Mike, Nicole's (Vega's daughter) boyfriend. He was confused and didn't know what to do, and Lilia realized it was the perfect time to attack. She shot him and began following Nicole. Nicole was already wounded and couldn't escape. Before killing her, Lilia revealed that she was the mother of one of Vega's victims. She believed that, before killing Vega, it was equally important to punish those who enabled him. Thanks to them, Vega never reflected on himself and, over the years, he had become a monstrous creature. If Nicole or her mother had protested or tried to stop him, perhaps the lives of his innocent victims would have been spared. But instead, they enjoyed his wealth and turned a blind eye to the crimes he committed. Nicole scoffed at Lilia's accusations. She explained that, from the age of 7, her father had begun touching her inappropriately. She didn't even realize she was being abused, and when she did, there was no one to support her and oppose Vega. Her mother didn't care; Katrina had become desensitized because she believed it was the only way to deal with her husband's nature. She sought her own outlets to experience some sense of free will. Unsurprisingly, Nicole detested her father and was quite vocal about her feelings. She wanted to escape from him, but needed his financial support, so she continued to put up with the spectacle. Lilia couldn't bring herself to pull the trigger on Nicole after discovering his secret. She, too, was a victim of Vega's and had grown up believing there was no escaping her father.

Unexpectedly, Vega appeared from behind with a gun in his hand, catching Lilia off guard. He'd heard gunshots, and before killing Jigger, his faithful aide had told him he'd received information about Lilia's intrusion into the party. Vega didn't feel a shred of guilt, not even knowing that she was the mother of one of his victims. He believed he had all the power in the world and could do whatever he wanted. Vega ordered Nicole to snatch Lilia's gun, and she obeyed. He added that he had killed Jigger after learning of his affair with Katrina. He told Nicole that from now on, Nicole was his only family and that they should stick together through thick and thin. Vega pointed his gun at Lilia; he was deeply upset that Lilia had decided to execute her entire operation on her birthday. He was a self-centered man who firmly believed he would outlive his father and grandfather (who died of cancer), especially since he hadn't been diagnosed with it. He believed he was invincible and wanted to celebrate his special day, but nothing ever went as planned. When Vega was about to shoot Lilia, Nicole stopped him and told him she wanted to be the one to pull the trigger. Vega was proud of Nicole and encouraged her to kill Lilia.

In the Uninvited finale, Nicole ended up shooting her father, and Lilia pulled out her dagger and stabbed him repeatedly. She had waited for this day for a long time, and she finally felt justice had been served.

Nicole begged Lilia to flee before the police arrived. As Lilia was about to leave the premises, she saw the fireworks in the sky. She almost felt as if Lily was watching over her, and she was proud of her mother. She hoped her daughter's spirit was at peace and that her heavenly journey would finally begin. Lilia managed to leave Vega's house before the police arrived. Even if the police discovered the perpetrator and arrested Lilia, she wouldn't regret it. Since the system had failed to bring justice to his daughter and Vega's other victims, someone had to step in and do what was necessary. In the post-credits scene of Uninvited, Vega's rival, Colonel Red, stood grinning over Vega's corpse. Vega had invited him to boast about his wealth and success, but it ultimately backfired. Colonel Red may have recognized Lilia at the party, but he decided not to interrupt the show that had just begun. He didn't have to do anything; Vega's evil deeds eventually caught up with him.

The Hunting Wives 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Netflix has become a haven for shows about small towns rocked by crime. Last week, we premiered Untamed, where the residents of a town in Yosemite National Park became embroiled in a murder mystery after a girl fell from El Capitan. The show dealt heavily with grief, suicidal tendencies, abusive men, and the colonialists' negative feelings toward the Indigenous community. The Glass Dome told the story of a criminal psychologist who returned to her hometown to attend her stepmother's funeral and found herself involved in investigating a series of murders seemingly connected to her past.  Hound's Hill centered on a Polish author who returned to his hometown to come to terms with a crime he may have committed, only to discover that a serial killer is on the loose, killing the perpetrators—and his name could be next on the list. So, yes, when I watched The Hunting Wives, I completely understood why Netflix bought the rights to this show. What confuses me is, who is this series ...
