I don't know how experienced people in the entertainment world could have greenlit the torture called Housefull 5. I understand that in this particular genre, known as "brainrot," one must leave logic aside and just go with the flow. But even after that, it was a chore to watch Housefull 5 in its entirety. The story, apparently conceived by Sajid Nadiadwala after 15 years of reflection and meditation, and with two different endings, A and B, for the first time in the history of Indian cinema, was so atrocious that one didn't know what the writers were going for. Dialogues, conversations, and situations are the key to a good comedy, but here too, the writers failed completely.
Akshay Kumar, as Julius, tried his best, but even his best efforts couldn't save the ship from sinking. To top it all off, the female characters were objectified in the worst possible way, and the creative team blatantly used them as props in the film. I guess, considering the audience's sensibilities, it would have worked if the story and script had been a little more appealing. Housefull 5 tries to be a mystery film, and suddenly wants to be an adult comedy. But suddenly, it remembers it could also use the franchise's name to its advantage and get a few laughs.
Director: Tarun Mansukhani
Writers: Tarun Mansukhani, Sajid Nadiadwala, Farhad Samji

It's wrong, and it ends up being a total disaster. I don't understand how they can get so many actors and spend so much money on costumes and makeup, but can't hire a good screenwriter to create a decent story. It's unimaginable how these big production companies underestimate the importance of a good script and believe they can fool the audience and entertain them by objectifying women, including a sordid dance number, and telling bad, outdated jokes. That said, I feel sorry for the creators, as even with such a big budget, they ended up making the worst film in the entire franchise, even though the bar wasn't that high. Let's find out what happened in the film and who was behind the murders.
It was tycoon Ranjit's centenary, and his son Dev, along with the board of directors, decided to throw a grand party on a cruise ship. The board included Bedi, Maya, Shiraz, and Dev. But just before the celebrations, Ranjit passed away and left a hologram of his will so Dev and the others would know how he wanted his assets distributed. In his will, Ranjit declared that he would leave his £69 billion empire to Jolly, who happened to be the son of his first wife. Dev, who already dreamed of running the organization, was stunned to learn this.
He couldn't understand why his father would do such a thing when he was the one running the family business from the very beginning. But he had no choice but to put on a happy face and welcome Jolly on board, as he was supposed to join them on the cruise with his foreign wife. Now, instead of one, three Jollys arrive on the cruise, all claiming to be the real one. The first was named Jalabuddin, the second was named Jalbushan, and the third was named Julius. Now, the obvious plot twist was that each of the teams was lying. That was because each of them had asked the other's partner to accompany them on the cruise as their wives, unaware that they would spill the beans to their real partners.
So, basically, Julius approached Kaanchi and asked her to accompany him, unaware that she was Jalabuddin's girlfriend. Kaanchi told Jalabuddin everything, who then looked for a partner and partnered with Zara, and Jalbushan hit it off with Sasikala. This is how three fake Jollys ended up on the cruise. Julius got the information about Ranjit's will since he himself was a detective, and Ranjit had hired him to find the real Jolly. Upon discovering that no one knew what Jolly looked like, he decided to try his luck to see if he could hit the jackpot. But soon the truth came out, and all the Jollys found themselves in a terrible mess from which they didn't know how to escape.
The doctor who was supposed to perform the DNA test on the three Jollys was the first to be killed. Then, Bedi, who was apparently up to something, died under mysterious circumstances. Just before Bedi was killed, the girls Kaanchi, Zara, and Sashikala saw the man insert something into the doctor's corpse at the morgue. They believed he was inserting evidence to mislead the police and frame an innocent man. After everything that had happened, Maya decided to call her ex-husband, Baba, an Interpol officer, to board the ship and investigate the case. Baba and her colleague, Bhidu, were suspended from their jobs just before Maya called Bhidu.
When Bhidu found out, he felt it was an opportunity he shouldn't miss. He told Baba not to tell Maya or the others that they had been suspended and to simply find out who the murderer was. Dev, the CEO, was arrested, as he was believed to have murdered the doctor and Bedi. But then, while he was inside the brig, another murder occurred, and the ship's captain was brutally stabbed. Bhidu and Baba realized that Dev couldn't be the killer, but guess what? They were wrong, and the truth came out when their boss, Dagdu Hulgund, arrived on the scene. Dagdu, thanks to his exceptional skills, discovered that Dev wasn't innocent, as everyone assumed, as he had a partner who killed the captain while he was in the brig. Dagdu joined forces with Julius, knowing that he also worked as a private detective.
During the Housefull 5 finale, it was revealed that Jalbushan, also known as Jolly 2, had conspired with Dev to murder the doctor and Bedi. They didn't plan to kill the captain, but he had seen them in action and was trying to blackmail and extort them. So Jalbushan, while Dev was in prison, killed the captain, and thanks to that, he managed to convince people that Dev was not the mastermind of the plan. In the alternate ending of Housefull 5, also known as Housefull 5B, it was revealed that Maya was the murderer. Not only had she conspired with Jalbushan to kill Dr. Bedi and the ship's captain, but she also framed Dev, resulting in his imprisonment.
Dagdu Hulgund, with the help of Jolly 1 and 3, managed to catch the murderers, but the question was: if everyone was lying, who was the real Jolly? In the Housefull 5 finale, the real Jolly, also known as Jalal Dobriyal, revealed that he did not need the 69 billion pounds, as he himself owned an empire worth 169 billion pounds. He asked everyone to equally distribute the money his father had left for him, and people couldn't have been happier. So, after becoming rich overnight, Julius married Sasikala, while Kaanchi ended up with Jalabuddin. Zara, on the other hand, decided to go with the real Jolly and ended up becoming the princess of his vast empire.
In the fifth season, Dev and Jalbushan were jailed, and in the fifth season, Maya and Jalbushan were imprisoned. Finally, I would like to say that even while writing the summary of events and trying to explain what happened in the film, I found it absurd that we still make films like these in our country and expect the entertainment industry to thrive. Housefull 5 is precisely the reason why people today have started giving preference to regional cinema. I mean, when you have the best shows in the world at your fingertips, why would you want to waste energy on such a film? That said, I think it's high time Akshay Kumar reflected on his decisions and started signing better projects.
