In the episode 6 finale of Nine Puzzles, E-Na discovers the connection between the three victims, which could be the reason they were all targeted by the same killer. The Disney K-drama tells the story of E-Na, a criminalist who found her uncle murdered with an ice pick in his neck a decade earlier. Now, she's drawn back in time as she receives packages containing a single puzzle piece every time a murder occurs.
E-Na quickly realizes that all the murders are linked to her own uncle's murder, but what piece connects her to this person, and why is she on the receiving end of these puzzles? On the other hand, there's Hansaem, a detective whose first case was the murder of E-Na's uncle, but who is tormented by it because he never solved it and continues to believe that E-Na, who was the only witness, is also the culprit. But together, they might be able to solve the mystery of the serial killer case. Let's find out what happens at the end of the first part of the series and what we can expect from the second.
Stars: Kim Da-mi, Son Suk-ku, Hwang Jung-min
Ten years ago, after finding her uncle's bloody body on his bedroom floor, E-Na forgot everything that had happened since she entered the house. Since then, she's been in therapy and is now a criminal profiler, but for some reason she can't remember any details from that moment. However, 10 years later, when she collaborates with Hansaem to solve new murders and starts receiving new puzzle pieces, she remembers a small detail.
When E-Na arrived at the scene of her uncle's murder, she didn't look back; she just picked up the puzzle piece and stared straight ahead, toward the window. Now she remembers seeing a black reflection in the window and not having the courage to look back. We know E-Na is basically a psychopath because she never cried when her father died. Plus, she's an orphan and sees things objectively, not subjectively. That's why she's an excellent profiler. Interestingly, her therapist tells her she probably feels guilty for not changing or being able to help her uncle. That's probably why she purged the memory. But now that she's experienced the only trigger, there's a chance she'll remember more as time goes on and she gathers more pieces of the puzzle.
E-Na discovers the first piece of the puzzle when Miyoung is murdered. Miyoung died in her own car, with a rope around her neck. Chimok visited her whiskey bar, but they didn't have an affair. The only thing the barmaid tells the police is that he told Miyoung the house was his first. We know Chimok was murdered by his wife and his mistress because he was suffocating her, and she'd always had a violent streak. He also killed his parents and sister. But Chimok was also on the list of serial killers, so this creates a kind of confusion that E-Na quickly uncovers. The last person killed is Do Yonsu, a man seemingly unrelated to the other two, and the clue in the puzzle piece after his murder is a clown.
At the end of Nine Puzzles Episode 6, E-Na realizes that the connection between the three victims—Miyoung Lee, Kang Chimok, and Do Yonsu—lies in that they all owned the same house at one point. So the question remains: what happened in that house, and what connection do these people have to E-Na's uncle's death? Meanwhile, E-Na has received four puzzle pieces: the first, from her uncle's death; the second, from Miyoung's death (with the piece of someone whispered to); the third, from dismembered body parts (after Chimok's death); and the last, from a clown, after Do Yonsu's death, which leads E-Na to an abandoned amusement park. When E-Na goes to the amusement park, the old security guard asks her if she wants to ride the Ferris wheel, and I have a feeling she might have found some clue we're not yet aware of. But the amusement park is about to close, so I wonder if the killer is trying to trick E-Na or the police. Still, there's bound to be something at the amusement park.
The series is called "Nine Puzzles," which means there have to be five more puzzle pieces before it's over. There are five more episodes, so since there's a murder every episode, we can expect five more deaths at this rate. In the scene where someone was drawing on the puzzle piece to indicate the body was being dismembered, it looked like a woman. I don't know about you, but I think I have reason to suspect Na-Ri, the police officer. She's definitely hiding something, but we don't know what yet. She may have some connection to the victims. Also, we don't know how the murders relate to E-Na's uncle, and that's the main thing that will lead them to the killer.
