The Ex-Wife's season 2 finale focused heavily on how Natasha "Tasha" finally got rid of her cruel husband, Jack Warrington, and banished the monster from her and her daughter Emily's lives for good. But, you see, that's exactly what happened at the end of season 1, so why did the creators bother us with another season that literally added nothing new to the story? I understood their point. It was the "ex-wife,"
Jen, who needed closure far more than Tasha's father, and therefore she should have been the one to kill Jack in season 1. But seriously, this particular story arc could have been wrapped up in a single episode. We really didn't need four. But it is what it is, so let me break down everything that happened in the season 2 finale of The Ex-Wife and what will happen to the characters in the near future. If you recall, the main conflict of the story was that Jack needed a child, and Jen couldn't provide it. Because of this, he lured Tasha into his trap and married her for the baby.

After Emily was born, he tried to remove Tasha from the plot so he could remarry Jen and have a happy ending. But things didn't go as Jack had planned, and at the end of the first season, he was in a fatal car accident in which he believed he had killed his own daughter. While behind bars, Jack blamed himself for Emily's death and sought revenge against Tasha for ruining everything for him. Well, he blamed Tasha for Emily's death instead of himself. He manipulated the authorities, telling them he wanted to reconcile with "his wife," Jen.
He still considered her his wife. That's when the counselor reminded him that Jen was his ex-wife and Tasha was his wife. In reality, Jack had never accepted Tasha as his wife, and that was the root of all the conflicts. About three years later, as soon as Jack was released from prison, he attempted to reconnect with Jen to find out Tasha's whereabouts and kill her for her daughter's tragic fate. He had been tapping Jen's phone and had begun to manipulate her emotionally, but when nothing worked, he attempted suicide in front of her, forcing her to reveal Tasha's whereabouts. Jen told Jack that his wife was in Larnaca, Cyprus.
Chaos erupted when Jack discovered that his daughter, Emily, was alive. He had previously tried to kill Tasha, blaming her for her death, but now that he knew she was alive, Jack just wanted Tasha out of their lives so he could take Emily back to England and give her the life she deserved. He kidnapped Emily from the house of Maria, the woman Tasha was staying with. Tasha was quite devastated when Jack took her daughter, though she couldn't report him to the police.
This was because Tasha had forged a fake death certificate for Emily to trick Jack into believing his daughter was dead. If he reported the crime to the police, she'd also go to jail, and there'd be no one left to care for Emily. I guess Tasha was very clear that she couldn't keep running from the past forever and would have to confront the man sooner or later. Jen wanted Tasha to escape with Emily while she distracted Jack, but when Jack found out about her plan, Tasha knew one of them had to go so Emily could have a future. She couldn't keep running forever and spend her whole life in fear.
Emily needed stability, and for that, Jack had to go. Tasha moved on from her ex-boyfriend, Sam, and asked him to inform the police, while she tracked Jen's cell phone to finally reach an abandoned quarry and get her daughter back by any means necessary. Maria had taught her how to pull a trigger, and Tasha was going to do it. In the season two finale of "The Ex-Wife," Tasha confronted Jack, but before she could get her hands dirty, Jack once again tried to manipulate her into believing that it would be best for Emily if she left.
Jack was a wealthy man who could provide for his daughter, unlike Tasha, who had been stealing and sneaking out of restaurants to feed hers. But Tasha wasn't convinced; she wanted to shoot him so they could live in peace. Tasha ran to get her gun, but Jen picked it up first and shot the monster to finally be rid of him. After Tasha signed the divorce papers, Jack wanted to move in with Jen and start over. However, Jen made it very clear that she didn't want to spend a minute with the psychopath. She was still in love with Jack, but she knew it came at a price. He was a master manipulator who would make her feel like a princess, but in reality, she'd be trapped in his castle for the rest of her life. I guess in the end both "ex-wives" were convinced that it would be better for everyone if Jack died.
After Jack's arrest about three years ago, Jen was finally able to move on with her life. She had met a man named Connor and was soon to marry him, but before that could happen, Jack returned and destroyed her life once again in just two weeks. Jen was in her right mind. She needed time to accept the fact that she had killed her ex-husband. She didn't want to be anyone's girlfriend or ex-wife until she figured out what she wanted out of her life. Because of this, Jen called off their marriage and told Connor that he deserved someone who would truly love him just the way he was. I guess Connor knew Jen was going through a lot and was still traumatized by the incident, so he didn't push her further. However, he also didn't give her the ring back. He told Jen that he was willing to wait for her no matter how long it took. Well, you see, in the past, it was Connor who rescued Jen from the dark space she had locked herself in. Even after Jack died, she lived in fear. She never slept soundly. She used to have nightmares about him and scream at night, and it took Connor months to put her back together with love and affection. I think he's willing to do it again. Not because he can, but because it's something that needs to be done. Jen wouldn't ask for help, but Connor loves her too much to help her anyway, which makes me believe these two will end up together, no matter what.
