Netflix's Reversi is a Malaysian science fiction drama film centered around a time traveler who had a revelation after suffering an extreme personal loss. Akid discovered he had inherited the power to time travel upon his 18th birthday.
Although his father didn't understand why the men in his family possessed this special ability, he shared with Akid the three rules of time travel he had learned through personal experience. First, money doesn't stick; while time travel grants the power of knowledge no one else possesses, it's impossible to manipulate destiny. Therefore, the money his father had earned through investing was used up to pay bills and debts. Second, a flower is destined to wither; there are certain things that are impossible to reverse, and he advised Akid to accept them rather than try to fix them.

Third, one can only time travel when one is calm in one's mind, and he believed that was the most important thing to remember. After watching his father die before his eyes, Akid struggled to cope with his absence. He often wondered if he had failed as a son for not intervening when a robber stabbed his father in the stomach.
Akid considered whether he should have traveled back in time to save him, but struggled. He remembered all the lessons his father had taught him: to accept fate and avoid time travel when one's mentally unsettled.
Every time Akid time traveled, he lost years of his life; that was the price he had to pay. So he kept a notebook to record the number of times he time traveled. Akid became a police officer, sometimes using his power to decipher a situation and turn it to his advantage. He once saved an addict and her daughter from suicide thanks to his special gift.
Akid's life changed dramatically when his friend introduced him to Sarah, a martial arts trainer. She was a breath of fresh air in Akid's life: her positivity and faith in living in the present amazed him. They eventually shared their vows and soon became parents to their son, Anas. Life was going wonderfully until one day everything collapsed for Akid.
In an accident, Akid lost his wife and son. He refused to accept his reality, and although he had promised Sarah that he would never use his superpower after they were married, he decided to make an exception to save his family. Akid tried everything: from trying to arrive at the scene of the accident on time to even going back a few days and begging Sarah and Anas not to leave his apartment.
He even tried to manipulate the reality of the driver responsible for their deaths, but nothing helped. The more he tried, the more serious and illogical the cause of their deaths became. Akid aged every day while traveling through time with a single purpose. He was determined to keep Sarah and Anas alive, at least in one of his realities, so he kept trying. Ultimately, he correctly timed the accident and saved Sarah from the crash. Since everything happened in a split second, he could only save one of them, and he chose Sarah. But his wife wasn't happy with his decision.
Seeing his gray hair, Sara realized he had traveled back in time over and over again to keep her alive, and she wondered why he hadn't chosen his son. Although Sarah lived in one of her realities, she was extremely depressed and no longer in love with Akid. She despised him for manipulating reality and forcing her to live without her son. Akid realized he had made a terrible mistake and tried to make amends.
He traveled back in time once more, but this time he chose to save his son. But once again, things didn't go well. Anas refused to accept his mother's absence, and his relationship with his father soured over time. Because Anas was born with hemophilia, Akid kept him confined to their apartment, fearing that his son would die if he left. His worst fear came true when his mother decided to take Anas for a walk.
While Anas was having a great time outdoors, he suddenly started bleeding from his nose and lost consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital, and the doctors informed Akid that they would give him a blood transfusion to stabilize his son.
Akid's instinct was to travel back in time again, but his mother stopped him. She reminded him of his father's teaching: flowers wither. She begged Akid not to fight fate, because it was impossible to win that game.
At the hospital, Akid's mother told him he was stubborn like his father. Although his father knew how impossible it was to fight fate, he too embarked on a similar journey. He revealed that Akid was destined to die in a mall robbery, but his father was hell-bent on manipulating reality. Like Akid, he too traveled back in time repeatedly and tried to stop it.
