“Hot Wheels: Let’s Race” is a Mattel preschool series based on the Hot Wheels franchise that first aired on March 4, 2024. The series is developed by Rob David (executive producer of Mattel’s action-packed cartoons such as the 2021 He Man shows), Jordan Gershowitz (who created The Twisted Timeline Of Sammy And Raj and wrote on shows such as Bunnicula, Monster High, Sesame Street, and Thomas And Friends: All Engines Go), and Melanie Shannon (production assistant at Mattel). The show centers on six kids named Coop, Spark, Mac, Brights, Axle Spoiler, and Sidecar, where they attend a special camp called The Ultimate Garage. Led by accomplished race car driver Dash Wheeler, the kids learn what it means to be Hot Wheels racers. This show is also among the few preschool shows that go for an overarching narrative. To quote Mattel:
“In Season 3, rival racer Cruise takes the lead with her ultra-powerful new Track Blasters, winning the keys to the Ultimate Garage for her evil father, Professor Rearview. But Coop and his friends aren’t giving up. They fight back at every turn, and when the Professor challenges them to a winner-takes-all final race, the stakes are higher than ever. The campers must embrace their defiant spirit to win the Ultimate Garage and stop Professor Rearview and his monsters for good.”
The voice cast includes Jakari Frasier as Coop, Amari McCoy as Spark, Griffin Campbell as Mac, Risa Mei as Brights, Josh Keaton as Axle Spoiler, Charlie Schlatter as Sidecar, Grey DeLisle as Dash Wheeler, Khary Payton as Speedy Gateway, Eric Bauza as Coop’s dad and Professor Rearview, Julie Nathanson as Cruise Rearview, Fred Tatasciore as Uncle Larry and Danny Trejo as Striker Spoiler. Hot Wheels: Let’s Race is produced by Mattel Television, Sprite Animation Studios and OLM Digital. Collette Sunderman serves as casting and voice director.
