Directed by Donie Ordiales, Crosspoint tells the story of a young man who moves to Japan in search of work, only to realize that it won't be easy to find one without proper permission. Manuel achieved great fame at a young age, but suddenly stopped working and found it difficult to support his family. Moving to Japan was an act of desperation, as he didn't know what else he could do. Manuel couldn't imagine what fate had in store for him and how his path would cross that of an unknown man who would forever shape his life. So let's find out what happened in the film Crosspoint and if Manuel managed to overcome the conflicts that arose.
At the beginning of the film, we saw a girl named Risako having some disagreements with her parents and decided not to return home. A sexual predator, Tatsuya, who was roaming the streets, saw Risako alone and decided to take advantage of her situation. He, under the pretext of helping her, told her he had a place where she could stay for the night. Tatasuya seemed so shy and sincere that Risako decided to confide in him. She knew it might not be the wisest thing to do, but she had no choice.

It was windy outside, and she didn't have enough money to book a hotel room. So the girl went with Tatsuya, and within minutes she realized she'd made a mistake. Tatsuya made a strange request, after which Risako knew she couldn't trust him. Tatsuya asked Risako to spit into a small container and give him her saliva. Risako told him beforehand that she wouldn't do anything like that, and that's when all hell broke loose when Tatsuya physically abused her. Tatsuya had raped and murdered many girls over the years, but the authorities had still been unable to catch him. The police, after many efforts, finally managed to catch him and release him.
Manuel was a professional actor and achieved great success and fame in the late 1990s. But there came a time when he couldn't find work, and the situation became so dire that he didn't know how to make ends meet. His wife was pregnant, and he knew he needed to find ways to earn money to support his family. His father was wealthy and more than willing to support his son. But Manuel didn't feel like accepting his help. Manuel had many problems with his father. He hadn't been by his side the way he would have liked. His father wasn't even present when he was born, and over the years he accepted that his father didn't love him. Manuel decided to go to Japan in search of work. He couldn't find any acting jobs in the Philippines, and he had friends in Japan who told him they could help him. It was a difficult decision for Manuel, as he knew that if he went to Japan, he wouldn't be with his wife when she went into labor. His father insisted again and again that he not take that step and join his business, but Manuel ignored him.
Meanwhile, in Japan, Yamaguchi was going through a financial crisis. He also wasn't happy that his daughter, Mayuko, wanted to be a musician. Mayuko, for once, wanted her father to understand her passion. She wanted her to attend one of his concerts, but he never did. He told him over and over that he should let her make her own decisions, even if he later realized he had made the wrong decision. Yamaguchi wanted to support his daughter; he didn't want to stand between her and her dreams, but he also didn't want her to end up like him.
Yamaguchi was beaten by some yakuza, who threatened to pay them back if he didn't want anything to happen to his daughter. Yamaguchi was sitting at a bar, wallowing in self-pity, when he saw a young man sitting next to him. That man was Manuel. Manuel had started working at a coffee shop, but one of the employees had informed the authorities that he didn't have a work permit and was employed illegally. Manuel didn't have a job and didn't know how he would survive in a foreign country.
Yamaguchi offered to pay for his drinks when he realized the young man had no money. The two were talking when, suddenly, the television showed the news that a sexual predator had escaped from prison. This criminal was Tatsuya, the same man we saw at the beginning of the film abusing the young woman. Manuel saw his photo and realized that, just a couple of hours earlier, he had encountered the same man near Gemma's cafe (the woman who supposedly employed Manuel). As soon as Manuel told Yamaguchi, he had an idea. The authorities had declared that whoever caught Tatsuya would receive 10 million yen as a reward. Yamaguchi saw an opportunity and didn't want to pass it up.
Manuel didn't think it was a good idea to try to catch such a dangerous man, but Yamaguchi somehow convinced him. The two went to the place where they believed Tatsuya was staying, and Manuel's worst fears were realized. Tatsuya killed Yamaguchi, but Manuel managed to overpower him and hand him over to the authorities. Eventually, the Japanese authorities also arrested Manuel, but it was decided that no charges would be filed against him for working in the country without permission, as he had helped them catch such a feared criminal. Manuel told the authorities he wasn't interested in the reward and asked them to give it all to Yamaguchi's daughter.
Mayuko collapsed upon learning of her father's death. She saw that Yamaguchi had an entrance pass to the club where she performed. Until that moment, Mayuko had felt that her father didn't want to attend any of her performances, but she realized she was wrong. Yamaguchi had gone to his concert, stood silently in a corner, and never told Mayuko. Mayuko felt even more guilty for having been angry with her father for the past few days. Manuel returned to the Philippines and realized that life was too short to hold grudges. He saw how everything could end in an instant, and that probably influenced him to mend his relationship with his father. Manuel hugged his father tightly and apologized for not treating him well. Manuel was still out of work, but now he had a renewed perspective. Sometimes it just takes a change of perspective to fix things, and I believe Manuel will find a way to provide for his family and raise his son in the best way possible.
