The Mother Lode, the second comedy special from SNL writer, actress, and comedian Rosebud Baker, will premiere globally on Netflix on February 18.
Taped months apart over two sold-out nights at New York City’s Comedy Cellar, the special shows Baker before and after giving birth. With the juxtaposition of these experiences, she discusses how to navigate the unknown in the evolutionary journey of parenthood, delving into the decision to have children, the indignities of childbirth, the pros and cons of losing your identity in motherhood, the generational divides of parenting, as well as coming to the difficult decision to retire from giving head, and more.

The Mother Lode marks the directorial debut of Baker, who performs her own material and also served as a producer, with Alex Goodman and Jason Katz serving as executive producers.
If you have kids, this special is for you. If you don’t want kids at all, this special is for you, too.”
Baker notes that there are “a lot of people in the world going through infertility, miscarriages, IVF, pregnancy, and postpartum,” and shares, “I’ve been through it all, and I wanted to make a special that would make anyone going through those experiences laugh as much as I needed to while I was going through them. We filmed for two years because I wanted to tell the full story, to include what the other side of pregnancy is like; and I needed to live it so I could tell jokes about it. My biggest hope is that it makes everyone laugh. It would be nice if it made them feel less alone, too.”
Baker is currently writing the 50th season of Saturday Night Live. Her critically acclaimed first hour, Whiskey Fists, produced by Bill Burr’s All Things Comedy, premiered on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel in 2021. In addition to SNL, she has written for two WGA Award-nominated sketch series: That Damn Michael Che and Inside Amy Schumer. She plays the recurring role of Meri on Hulu’s Life & Beth, alongside Schumer and Michael Cera, and also appears in the upcoming horror comedy Hell of a Summer, directed by Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk.
Baker is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, UTA for touring, CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello.
