The art direction of the film stands out and creates brilliant tones that the film's cinematography team has captured beautifully. The film starts off with a sense of predictability in its setup, but as it enters its second act, we see this film really come into its own with the conflict deepening with each scene. The writing of this film really stands out with the dialogue constantly creating drama and conflict, ultimately delivering a satisfying resolution.
The performances are good for their roles. Julien Frison really stands out with his nervous energy and is the perfect cast for this role. What the film lacks is perhaps a good soundtrack. It feels like a missed opportunity where the filmmakers could have showcased regional instruments and given a touch of local life. Another aspect that is missing from their script is how overtly silly it gets at times in the attempt to be simplistic and innocent.
The film is technically beautiful with plenty of good performances and is perfect for mid-week viewing if you want to de-stress as we head into the weekend.
We will recommend this film for a leisurely viewing during Valentine's week.
