Science fiction and socially conservative Thailand are an unlikely mix that is explored in the upcoming anthology series “Tomorrow and I,” which global streaming service Netflix will release in late 2024.
Directed by Paween Purijitpanya, the four-part series reimagines everyday scenarios in intriguing ways. The 70-minute episodes cover: bringing loved ones back from the dead through the use of cloning technology; intelligent sex robots; how artificial intelligence could advance Buddhist teachings from their traditional, fixed position; and how people could come to rely on “octopuses” to survive in perpetually flooded cities.

Purijitpanya has previously written, directed or edited segments of the 2007 film “Body,” the 2008 film “4bia” and its 2009 sequel “Phobia 2,” as well as the 2012 film “Seven Something,” the boundary-pushing 2021 title “Ghost Lab” and an acclaimed episode of the “Liberation” episode of Season 2 of “Girl from Nowhere.”
The show was first announced earlier this year as Netflix expanded its Southeast Asian production slate. Now, the streaming service is promoting it further as part of its “Geek Week” presentation and has released a trailer.
“This groundbreaking anthology series is Netflix Thailand’s first sci-fi title, where we continue to push the boundaries of local storytelling,” the company said in a statement.
Produced by Jungka Studio, “Tomorrow and I” is part of an expanding slate of Thai content that Netflix is backing. It has also released the horror anthology series “Terror Tuesday: Extreme,” based on a popular radio show; an exploration of faith and social issues in “The Believers”; retro takes on 1970s sex and intimacy in “Doctor Climax”; and “Master of the House,” a deluxe retelling of the Thai soap opera “lakorn” genre and the first Thai title to reach the top spot on the streamer’s Global Top 10 TV (non-English) series ranking.
