Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Scott Chambers’ Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is the third installment in the Twisted Childhood universe and it manages to become the best one yet, being an outlandish reimagining filled with delusions, drugs, and brutal murders.

For those unfamiliar with this newly established universe, a few years ago we were treated to a Winnie-the-Pooh horror film titled Blood and Honey as soon as the popular character hit the public domain. The first film, though I rushed to the theater to see it, was a daunting task to sit through, though we called it “The Horror Room” back then. Not surprisingly, the film was a box office hit during its limited release and spawned a sequel the following year.

Director: Scott Chambers
Writers: J.M. Barrie, Scott Chambers, Rhys Frake-Waterfield
Stars: Kierston Wareing, Chrissie Wunna, Nicholas Woodeson

The sequel, appropriately titled Blood and Honey II, was a major improvement over everything the first did and while the first ended up with a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel satisfied with a 47%. Some of the most prestigious horror films fail to break through the “fresh” barrier, such as 2004’s Saw (50%), Jennifer’s Body (46%) and Final Destination (36%). Blood and Honey II reincarnated a number of classic horror characters and placed them within the world of the Hundred Acre Wood, and with this trajectory it’s hard to say how crazy this universe can get. Which brings us to Neverland’s Nightmare and the introduction of the one and only Peter Pan…

Martin Portlock’s Peter Pan is genuinely horrifying, fluctuating between a voice of childlike wonder and the deep, scornful voice of a killer. His costume design completely embodies what a true Peter Pan lunatic would wear, with tattered clothes a size too small and a haunting mask adding an extra touch of fear.

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare follows the titular Peter as he prepares several children for their journey to “Neverland.” One of the unfortunate children Peter chose turns out to be Wendy's brother, who attempts to track down and rescue his younger brother. It's a simple premise, one that many horror fans should be accustomed to. Megan Placito's take on the well-known Wendy transforms from a friend of Peter's with a taste for the fantastical in the commonly known story, to a final girl covered in blood seeking revenge with a satisfying fanfare. While there are serious changes to the aforementioned Peter and Wendy, audiences are not prepared for Chambers' harrowing take on Tinker Bell.

The bold genre shift from J.M. Barrie's tale is able to capture an effective level of terror that only independent films will be able to produce. With its minimal budget (unfortunately, most independent films will be compared to the legendary effects of the original Terrifier), the film is not as brutal as it wishes to be. Not to say that there aren't some brutal murders, but they are not as violent or plentiful as you would expect from the Blood and Honey II universe.

In a zany way, Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare crafts the film's atmosphere with moments comparable to Danny Boyle's 1996 Trainspotting and Scott Derrickson's 2021 The Black Phone. With a villain with layers of temper and a base of operations that seems sickly to the touch. This comparison, along with many other homages to familiar horror classics, will naturally give you a mix of déjà vu

and a nostalgic smile. With each installment there has been progress and it's easy to look forward to the madness that awaits us in the Twisted Childhood universe.

A Minecraft Movie 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

If you were to throw a bucket in Hollywood today, you could easily find a dozen video game adaptations in development, either as TV series or movies. They're all vying for the same thing: critical acclaim, huge box office revenue, or a sudden surge in streaming subscribers thanks to established fandoms. But it's a long shot: Will they become a "Borderlands" movie flop or a "Last of Us" hit? Next month, Legendary Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Microsoft are going for box office gold with a different kind of game-to-movie adaptation: "A Minecraft Movie." Director: Jared Hess Writers: Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener Stars: Jennifer Coolidge, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers For the uninitiated, Microsoft-owned "Minecraft" is a sandbox game that immerses players in the Overworld, a whimsical dimension made up of blocky, box-like voxels. There's no single story or single way to play: users can craft items, build structures, ba...

On Saturday, Disney premiered its live-action remake of Snow White in Los Angeles. Early reactions after the screening indicate that the film, starring Rachel Zegler as the fairy tale title character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, is "actually quite successful," according to one viewer, while several praise Zegler, with one critic calling it "impressive" despite the significant online controversy surrounding the title. The Hunting Wives 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Netflix has become a haven for shows about small towns rocked by crime. Last week, we premiered Untamed, where the residents of a town in Yosemite National Park became embroiled in a murder mystery after a girl fell from El Capitan. The show dealt heavily with grief, suicidal tendencies, abusive men, and the colonialists' negative feelings toward the Indigenous community. The Glass Dome told the story of a criminal psychologist who returned to her hometown to attend her stepmother's funeral and found herself involved in investigating a series of murders seemingly connected to her past.  Hound's Hill centered on a Polish author who returned to his hometown to come to terms with a crime he may have committed, only to discover that a serial killer is on the loose, killing the perpetrators—and his name could be next on the list. So, yes, when I watched The Hunting Wives, I completely understood why Netflix bought the rights to this show. What confuses me is, who is this series ...
