Forty-eight hours earlier, Zoleka (Sivenathi Mabuya), an actress who plays a popular character in a first-season soap opera, concludes her last scene of the season finale. Her character is poisoned at her wedding. When her co-star tells her that she has seen some scripts for the second season, Zoleka is alarmed because she has not seen any. When she confronts the showrunners about signing her up for the second season, they won't commit.
It's not exactly a moment of celebration when her boyfriend Kagiso (Bohang Moeko) visits her on set. They have been dating for three years and have plans, mainly to buy land overlooking Johannesburg and build a house for their future family. They decide to do it, take their savings and buy the land. But first, Kagiso needs to meet Zoleka's super-demanding father; A long-planned lunch has been organized for them to do just that.

Zoleka begins to suspect that Kagiso is seeing someone else, as she has sneaky phone calls with business partners and tells him that a woman she sees him talking to is a decorator for her sister's sweet sixteen party. Then, at dinner with his partner Sbu Twala (Sandile Mahlangu) and his wife Beauty (Thando Thabethe), Kagiso says that he is not ready to get married, mainly because he believes Zoleka is too modern to care about things like that.
This surprises Zoleka, given all the planning they've been making. She returns to her house, where she is staying with her best friend Amahle (Noxolo Dlamini). Amahle just thinks Kagiso is being weird while she talks about marriage. Zoleka decides to go to her sister's birthday party and be "the most Wi-Fi wife" her parents have ever seen. And she asks Amahle to come with her.
At the party, she is as nice as possible to Kagiso's parents, and even volunteers to prepare the traditional porridge called "pap" to accompany the rest of the meal. But Kagiso's mother sees Amahle and says, "I know you!" and other strange things happen. After getting distracted trying to figure out what her boyfriend is doing, she burns the paper, which earns her a lot of criticism.
Her suspicion meter goes into the red when she discovers that night that Kagiso left for Durban, where he is about to make a big deal on his application, early. When he goes to the resort town with his cousin, he finds Kagiso on the beach, proposing to Amahle in a wig. But it's after that, when Zoleka reveals everyone's secrets, that he finds out what's really going on.
How to Ruin Love: The Proposal has practically the same tone and humor as How to Ruin Christmas, only it has transferred the crazy events to a different character. This is probably due to the untimely death of Christmas star Busisiwe Lurayi in October 2022. Instead of trying to continue the story within the same family, Rethabile and Katleho Ramaphakela, the creators of the show, decided to create a new family and a new "ruiner." ”, for lack of a better term.
It works because Mabuya seems to be having a lot of fun playing Zoleka, someone who doesn't think she's inherently suspicious, but still lets things get out of hand once she gets the suspicion that Kagiso might be backing out. How she handles the fallout from her reaction to what she found in Durban will drive the rest of this season, and we hope that once the season is resolved, Zoleka will become the focus of future seasons of this series. .
We also agree with Beauty and Sbu being the connection between the two shows. Will it eventually bring both families back to the show's universe? Maybe, but probably not. But. Since they were the ones who ruined their wedding during the first Christmas season, it's only fitting that they watch someone else lose their loving mind from the outside. Perhaps they can even give some sage advice to Zoleka and Kagiso, given their experience.
