“Spellbound,” originally titled “The Unbreakable Spell,” is an upcoming animated musical from Skydance Animation. Following the success of Disney's “Frozen,” also produced by Lasseter, there is great anticipation surrounding the release of “Spellbound.” The film was initially rumored to release on November 11, 2022, but was reportedly delayed to 2024, with a switch from Apple TV+ to Netflix for its release.
In early 2022, Skydance Animation signed a licensing agreement with Spin Master, a prominent toy company, resulting in a line of toys based on “Spellbound” characters.
Featuring a cast featuring Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem, “Spellbound” is poised to be Skydance Animation's next major hit. The plot, shrouded in mystery like its predecessor “Luck,” centers on a fantasy realm threatened by the powers of light and darkness. Princess Eileen, played by Rachel Zegler, must use her magical abilities to prevent the kingdom from succumbing to eternal darkness.
Directed by Vicky Jenson and produced by David Lipman, with executive producers including John Lasseter, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, “Spellbound” features an impressive creative team. The screenplay was crafted by Linda Woolverton, Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, while renowned Alan Menken and Glenn Slater contribute to the original score and melodies.
