Castway Diva is about two children, Mok-ha and Jung Ki-ho, and how fate brought them together. The series sheds light on child abuse in a very delicate and sensible way. There are scenes where the girl's father brutally beats the boy just so she can escape from it.
Jung Ki-ho's father is in the police and is a single father. Upon discovering that he was hoarding money, his father brutally beats him. Ki-ho's mother lived far away from her and he was saving money to leave the city and live with her, however, this does not go well with her father. He was often seen doing odd jobs to earn money and leave his pathetic life behind.
Stars: Park Eun-bin, Kim Joo-hun, Jong-Hyeop Chae
Mok-ha is an aspiring singer with Ran-Joo as her idol. With the help of Ki-ho, she made a video and was selected by the Queen of K-Pop herself, Ran-Joo. Her father did not support her aspirations and beat her brutally. Several bruises were seen on her hand. One day she called the police to report the violence. Officer Ki-ho's father took no action. While he was trying to leave town with Ki-ho, his father intervened. An acquaintance told his father about his whereabouts. So, the plan was not successful.
Mok-ha was an eighth grade student when she became stranded on an island. Remembering how Jung Ki-ho told her about the appearance of potato flowers, she found a way to survive. At the end of the episodes, it is revealed that she is twenty-five years old. How is it possible that a person whose intense search was carried out has not been found for more than a decade?
If we rewind the scene where she fell into the sea, it seems obvious that she would not have walked away from it and that the island was probably somewhere nearby. The first episode of Castaway Diva almost blew me away, but these last few scenes were sad. They almost destroyed the pacing and expectations of the series for me.
Another thing that came to mind is how a person who has grown so much has clothes that look good but wears shoes with multiple holes. Another thing, how did she find so many umbrellas that also didn't have holes? A possible and acceptable explanation could be that many lived on that island before her. However, all these things aside, I doubt the series has anything substantial left to show. If it had been a short story, I would have been content with it. What remains to be shown is how Jung Ki-ho has grown and what Mok-ha will do now. In the final moments of the first episode, it is revealed that a drone found her.
It will take a while for the girl to adapt to society and, from the looks of it, she will also come into contact with Ran-Joo, who has changed a lot. There are a total of twelve episodes and if the remaining ones are as good as most of the first episode was, this could become a hit series.
The way the writers have described what Ki-ho did for Mok-ha makes one feel sorry for these poor souls. Coming from homes of abusive parents, these two children bonded well. Jung Ki-ho defended Mok-ha, and if it hadn't been for him, her father might have killed her one day. Overall, the series is off to a semi-good start and is well worth your time.
