Ubisoft today revealed a trailer for Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Netflix's upcoming anime is based on the 2013 Blood Dragon expansion for Far Cry 3, but it appears to be at least a tongue-in-cheek remix of Ubisoft's IP and early '90s nostalgia.

Series creator Adi Shankar (producer of Netflix's Castlevania series) introduced the trailer in a campy cyborg outfit befitting the source material. "Seven years ago, I got a call from Ubisoft, offering me the opportunity to adapt one of their very, very, very serious franchises into an anime," Shankar deadpanned. “But instead, I came back to them with a crazy concept inspired by the atmosphere of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. This concept used Ubisoft's vast library of characters and remixed them into a crazy anime series that would become this love letter to the '90s... or at least how I remembered the '90s.

The series takes place in 1992, but it is an alternate universe where the United States has fallen and been replaced by a nation called Eden with strong Orwellian vibes. "Super soldier Dolph Laserhawk has just been betrayed by the love of his life and locked up in Eden's maximum security prison, Supermaxx," explains Ubisoft. "Now he must lead a team of marginalized rebels on risky covert missions in order to survive."

Shankar describes the series as violent, dystopian fiction in the spirit of the works of Aldous Huxley, as well as a parody, satire, black comedy, love story and "the most philosophically aware show you've seen in a long time." Bobbypills Studio is responsible for the animation.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix this fall.

The series takes place in 1992, but it is an alternate universe where the United States has fallen and been replaced by a nation called Eden with strong Orwellian vibes. In the midst of this confusion stands Dolph Laserhawk, a super soldier of unwavering determination, only to be betrayed by the one closest to him. His fate takes a cruel turn when he finds himself imprisoned in the impenetrable fortress known as Supermaxx, a bastion of Eden's power.

In this desperate hour, Dolph must step forward to lead a group of marginalized rebels through treacherous covert missions, whose survival hangs in the balance. He declares her challenge to him, stating that he would rather find his end than submit to Eden's will. However, fate weaves its own tapestry and Dolph eventually succumbs to capture, thrown into the relentless clutches of Supermaxx's unyielding guardian. Within those cold, unfeeling walls, he meets his comrades, each with a unique and invaluable skill. They are assigned missions that turn them into ghosts in the outside world, invisible and unrecognized. The warden, a chilling authority figure, wields the power to determine when and where his possible end will come.

Letterkenny veteran Jacob Tierney wrote and directed the six-part series about two rising hockey stars who fall passionately in love. Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin entered the NHL in 2005. For more than 20 years, the Canadian star and his Russian counterpart have waged one of the greatest rivalries in the sport. They've won titles, medals, and scoring crowns, and both are still playing (with the same franchises that drafted them), having earned their place among hockey's all-time elite. Creator: Jacob Tierney Stars: Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, Callan Potter That's the underlying premise at the heart of HBO Max and Crave's new six-part romantic drama, Heated Rivalry, based on the book by Rachel Reid and written and directed by Letterkenny veteran Jacob Tierney. Don't expect many direct similarities to Letterkenny, though. Heated Rivalry may have some comedic elements, as relationships between passionate men are often entertaining, but it's a sincere a...

The Hunting Wives 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Netflix has become a haven for shows about small towns rocked by crime. Last week, we premiered Untamed, where the residents of a town in Yosemite National Park became embroiled in a murder mystery after a girl fell from El Capitan. The show dealt heavily with grief, suicidal tendencies, abusive men, and the colonialists' negative feelings toward the Indigenous community. The Glass Dome told the story of a criminal psychologist who returned to her hometown to attend her stepmother's funeral and found herself involved in investigating a series of murders seemingly connected to her past.  Hound's Hill centered on a Polish author who returned to his hometown to come to terms with a crime he may have committed, only to discover that a serial killer is on the loose, killing the perpetrators—and his name could be next on the list. So, yes, when I watched The Hunting Wives, I completely understood why Netflix bought the rights to this show. What confuses me is, who is this series ...
