Speaking about the creation of the first season of Scoop, director and co-creator Hansal Mehta said: “As a filmmaker, my intention is always to tell stories that go beyond one weekend. In Scoop I found just that: a story that speaks urgently to our post-truth times. Collaborating with someone as talented as Mrunmayee brought a sensibility that deeply enriched the show. All of this would not have been possible without Netflix and Matchbox Shots, who fueled our deep dive into Jagruti Pathak's personal and professional world, allowing our vision to flourish. With Netflix, the creation process is always exciting and collaborative. The first season is just the beginning. I look forward to exploring the story-rich world of media even further.”
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, said: “Scoop brings the high-stakes world of crime reporting to life through a dynamic and driven journalist, Jagruti Pathak. Inspired by true events, it is a powerful untold story about the unexpected cost of ambition that can turn a victim into a winner in a second. Partnering with and enabling the vision and genius of Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul and collaborating with Matchbox Shots has been quite the journey. Scoop, with its powerful performances and engaging drama, will be a defining series for all audiences in India."
Adding to this, Matchbox Shots producer Sarita Patil said: “Matchbox Shots is delighted to be collaborating with Netflix once again. Following the success of Monica, O My Darling, Scoop will be our first series and we're excited to bring our best work to the service. We believe in the power of storytelling to inspire and move audiences. With our passion for creating original content, Hansal Mehta's epic storytelling, and the reach of Netflix, we're sure Scoop will capture the hearts and minds of viewers around the world."
The trailer shows Jagruti as a deputy bureau manager of a newspaper who lands an interview with one of the big names in the underworld, Nana, who belongs to Chhota Rajan's gang. She has good sources with her informants and even her police, who eventually turn on her when Jaideb Sen (Prosenjit Chatterjee) is murdered in cold blood. She becomes the prime suspect and is sent to jail. While most of the world believes that Jagruti is guilty, she has to fight to clear her name. Throughout it all, her family is by her side.
The series will stream on Netflix starting June 2.
