All signs pointed to a sequel to "Dune" when Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel opened in US theaters (Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff nearly confirmed a follow-up film on October 21, 2021, the day before the film's release). On October 26 of that year came official confirmation from Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. that "Dune: Part Two" was officially underway.
Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem are set to reprise their roles from their first film, with some new talent (and Oscar nominees) joining. the cast.
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Writers: Frank Herbert, Jon Spaihts, Denis Villeneuve
Stars: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson
Chalamet rides a large worm to impress Zendaya's Chani in the first Dune 2 trailer. The rightful heir to House Atreides is trapped on the planet Arrakis while the rest of the universe believes him to be dead, so Javier Bardem's character gives you some tips on how to do it. to ride the sandworm. Elsewhere, Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan conspires and Austin Butler's Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen fights in an arena, bald from the eyebrows up. "In the shadows of Arrakis lie many secrets," says Princess Irulan. "But darkest of all will remain the end of House Atreides." However, it is not that dark. At the end of the trailer, Paul Atreides masters sandback driving and gets to kiss Chani.
If you've seen Dune: Part One, you may remember that most of the characters are, in fact, dead. Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster are all killed by gas, combat, and sandworms. So Villeneuve has packed Dune: Part Two with some pretty familiar names. Chalamet, Bardem, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson will return, of course. But they added Pugh, Butler, Léa Seydoux, and Christopher Walken to their band of sci-fi sisters.
Walken will play Shaddam IV, the emperor of House Corrino; Pugh will play her daughter, Princess Irulan; Seydoux will play Lady Margot, who is one of the Emperor's friends and a member of the iconic Bene Gesserit queens; and Butler will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Baron Harkonnen's nephew of Stellan Skarsgård. Finally, Tim Blake Nelson will play a yet unnamed character. He is a true who's who of talent across generational divides.
“Dune: Part Two” officially opens in theaters on November 3.
