When it comes to families, everyone feels at least a little embarrassed by their own interpersonal dynamics. Such is certainly the case with Sebastián Maniscalco in the upcoming comedy Sobre mi padre. Directed by Laura Terruso, the film is about two families from very different backgrounds who unite their personalities for the 4th of July weekend. In a trailer released today, we see the fun chemistry between Maniscalco and Robert De Niro, who play an Italian father-and-son duo.
The trailer begins with Sebastian (Maniscalco), who makes the difficult decision to invite his father, an Italian immigrant, Salvo (De Niro), to his future father-in-law's Fourth of July barbecue. Taking the blame as only a father can, Salvo insists that his son include him in the weekend festivities because otherwise, he'll be alone. Sebastian's fiancée's (Leslie Bibb) family is everything her father is not: kind, caring, loving, supportive and caring, while Salvo struggles to see the point of holding his son. Despite their differences, the two groups will find a way to come together and celebrate the things that make them special and unite them as a "family."
Director: Laura Terruso

Along with Maniscalco, De Niro and Bibb, the feature also features a star-studded ensemble including Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), Anders Holm (Workaholics), Brett Dier (Schooled) and David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!) . The feature serves as a reunion between its leads with De Niro and Maniscalco previously teaming up for the much grimmer Martin Scorcese-directed gangster flick The Irishman.
In addition to starring, Maniscalco, known for his extensive comedic career, also co-wrote the screenplay with Austen Earl. Andrew Miano, Judi Marmel, Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz produce.
