Vishal Bharadwaj has surprised fans with his short film shot. In the past, directors like Damien Chazelle, Park Chan-Wook, and many others have directed short films for Apple.
The trailer for the short film is wonderful and the visuals are impressive. The color palette and music are top notch. It is a very experimental project for a filmmaker as established as Vishal Bharadwaj. He also has some great actors in the project like Ishaan Khatter and Wamiqa Gabbi. As always, Vishal Bharadwaj provides the music for the film himself and the lyrics are written by Gulzar. We can witness the magic of the musical duo once again. Vocals are provided by singers like Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher. The songs take the movie to a whole other level. The dance sequences are carefully choreographed. Shiamak Davar has done a great job as a choreographer.
Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Writers: Vishal Bhardwaj, Jyotsna Hariharan

All it takes is a passion for cinema. And an iPhone! Vishal Bhardwaj, an author, has made a short film, about 30 minutes, entirely on an iPhone 14 Pro. Despite the hiccups and choppy hiccups in its execution, the film's simple yet compelling story works. It also has the typical elements of an Indian musical, which have been executed with precision and sharp aesthetics.
“Fursat” stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Ishaan Khattar in the lead. Diya Srivastava (Wamiqa Gabbi) is a doctor at a government hospital somewhere in Rajasthan. Nishant or Nishu (Ishaan Khattar) is his childhood friend, a scientist obsessed with knowing the future. He discovers a relic that leads him to develop a time travel tool, one that accurately tells him the future. Nishant is so immersed in his 'doordarshak' that he forgets to value his present. So much so that he misses out on a major life event, leading Diya to call it quits. Ready to marry someone else in a grand classic betrothal, Nishu finds Diya to warn her that he has glimpsed his future and grave danger is coming. As events prove to be true, Diya's sharp thinking about the timing and Nishant's "Doordarshak" save them from adversity. The lovers come together. Having finally figured out how to make his 'Doordarshak' work, Nishant leaves him behind to savor life in the moment and in the company of his beloved.
Fursat's jarring flaws are the songs that are interspersed throughout its narrative without polished editing. An inclusion that is perhaps a requirement to show the viability of the iPhone as a cinematographic tool for India, they shake up a clever story where brevity triumphs. Like all Vishal Bhardwaj movies, this one too has a strong belief. Obsessing over what the future holds can take away from living in the present. Both Wamiqa Gabbi and Ishaan Khattar have delivered winning performances, recording compelling characters in a limited amount of time. The filmmaker has also managed to highlight inherent Indian beliefs and social elements such as great commitment, the value of astronomy and knowing our Bhavishya. He has given his female lead agency within this short film, making her choices crucial to the story. Set in the desert and picturesque locations of Rajasthan, “Fursat” is a dramatic triumph over the limits of time in the film itself.
The film testifies to Bharadwaj's skills in telling a witty, intelligent and entertaining story with comedy, drama and some mystique in short form. iPhone movies like Steven Soderbergh's "Unsane" (filmed partly on the phone) and the Oscar-winning documentary "Finding Superman" (filmed partly on the phone) are leading examples of technology cutting costs and effort to make a movie. With “Fursat”, this evolution is much more effective.
The film has been described as the story of a man who becomes so obsessed with the power to control the future that he risks losing everything he has in the present. Ishaan plays the lead role, Nishant in the film. Nishant has a device called 'Doordarshak' which can predict the future, and while trying to control the future, she distances herself from his love interest, played by Wamiqa Gabbi.
The wonderful songs 'Kal' can be said as the essence of the film and the title itself, 'Fursat' is very revealing. Bharadwaj has said that the title speaks of our feeling of lack of idleness and forgetting to live due to ambition and then ultimately losing our freedom.
