The Makanai--Cooking for the Maiko House, the upcoming Japanese series created by Hirokazu Kore-eda, will premiere on Netflix on January 12, 2023. The nine-episode series is based on the manga (Japanese novel or graphic novel) MAIKO - SAN CHI NO MAKANAI-SAN by Aiko Koyama.

Stars: Mayu Matsuoka, Ai Hashimoto, Nana Mori

Set in the Geiko district of Kyoto, the protagonist Kiyo (Nana Mori) becomes a Makanai (person she cooks) in a house where Maiko (Geiko's apprentice) lives together. The story depicts the daily life of Kiyo and Maiko Sumire (Natsuki Deguchi), her childhood friend who came with her from Aomori to Kyoto, amidst a vibrant world of Geiko and Maiko courtesans and delicious food. The comic won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award and is a bestseller with more than 2.7 million copies sold.

The Makanai Cooking for the Maiko House is adapted from Aiko Koyoma's original super-hit Manga Maiko-san Chi No Makanai-san Maiko-san, which has sold more than 2.7 million copies worldwide. The show is set in Kyoto and follows the lives of childhood best friends Sumire Harai, played by Natsuki Deguchi and Kiyo Nozuki, played by Nana Mori.

Sumire and Kiyo come to Kyoto to become apprentice geishas, but only Sumire can become one. Kiyo now cooks meals for the Maiko House workers. The Japanese series will show the lives of cooks as geisha and Makanai apprentices. It is clear that viewers will also enjoy images of delicious Japanese cuisine. The drama will involve their daily life and the friendship of the two role characters.

The trailer begins with Kyoto writing an emotional letter to her grandmother, describing her new life as a cook at Maiko House. She seems pleased with her work, and everyone in the Maiko House seems to enjoy her cooking. In the midst of the daily chores of the Maiko House, it will be interesting to watch the drama surrounding Makanai.

Given the popularity of Manga among the readers, there has been an increase in its adaptation for movies and series. Netflix describes The Makanai Cooking for the Maiko House as an intimate and heartfelt drama. Given the multi-award winning Manga that is the inspiration behind this series, we are excited for the show's premiere.

A Minecraft Movie 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

If you were to throw a bucket in Hollywood today, you could easily find a dozen video game adaptations in development, either as TV series or movies. They're all vying for the same thing: critical acclaim, huge box office revenue, or a sudden surge in streaming subscribers thanks to established fandoms. But it's a long shot: Will they become a "Borderlands" movie flop or a "Last of Us" hit? Next month, Legendary Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Microsoft are going for box office gold with a different kind of game-to-movie adaptation: "A Minecraft Movie." Director: Jared Hess Writers: Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener Stars: Jennifer Coolidge, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers For the uninitiated, Microsoft-owned "Minecraft" is a sandbox game that immerses players in the Overworld, a whimsical dimension made up of blocky, box-like voxels. There's no single story or single way to play: users can craft items, build structures, ba...

The Hunting Wives 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Netflix has become a haven for shows about small towns rocked by crime. Last week, we premiered Untamed, where the residents of a town in Yosemite National Park became embroiled in a murder mystery after a girl fell from El Capitan. The show dealt heavily with grief, suicidal tendencies, abusive men, and the colonialists' negative feelings toward the Indigenous community. The Glass Dome told the story of a criminal psychologist who returned to her hometown to attend her stepmother's funeral and found herself involved in investigating a series of murders seemingly connected to her past.  Hound's Hill centered on a Polish author who returned to his hometown to come to terms with a crime he may have committed, only to discover that a serial killer is on the loose, killing the perpetrators—and his name could be next on the list. So, yes, when I watched The Hunting Wives, I completely understood why Netflix bought the rights to this show. What confuses me is, who is this series ...
