Distant 2023 Movie Review Trailer Cast Crew

One of the first entries on the list of new movies in 2023, Distant is a sci-fi survival adventure for movie fans to enjoy. But coming from the directing duo behind Blades of Glory and Office Christmas Party, there might as well be a good dash of humor as part of the mix.

2023 has a handful of great sci-fi movies on its plate, including 65 directed by Adam Driver and Dune Part Two. How will Distant compare to them?

Directors: Josh Gordon, Will Speck
Writer: Spenser Cohen
Stars: Anthony Ramos, Naomi Scott, Kristofer Hivju

Filmmaking duo Will Speck and Josh Gordon have set their next project. Distant, a sci-fi comedy film, is set to hit theaters early next year. It is a joint venture between DreamWorks Pictures, Six Foot Turkey Productions and Automatik Entertainment and was filmed in Budapest, Hungary at the height of the pandemic in late 2020. The low number of Covid cases, rigid planning and government assistance meant that studios in Hungary were some of the first to welcome international film productions in the summer of 2020.

Speck and Gordon are best known for their work directing films like Blades of Glory and Office Christmas Party, as well as their television work like Netflix's Flaked and Hulu's Hit-Monkey. They are also working on the next adaptation of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. Perhaps his biggest triumph came with the biggest TV hit of 2007, the GEICO sitcom Cavemen, which aired less than half of its 13-episode order before cancellation. Ah, what could have been.

Little is known about the plot at this point, but we have a general idea of what to expect. Distant's story will center on an asteroid miner who crash-lands on an alien planet. While you're stuck there, you must navigate through rugged terrain and unfamiliar surroundings. The miner will also reportedly come into conflict with his AI survival suit during the mission. He soon, he locates another survivor, a woman trapped in her escape pod who is running out of oxygen. The miner then has to fight his way across the terrain to the woman, all while he deals with his own depleting oxygen levels and the alien creatures that are after him.

With that, let's move on to the filmmakers' next project. What do we know about Distant? Where will the science fiction story take the audience? Who has been chosen for the cast? When and where will the film be released? And what else should audiences know about Will Speck and Josh Gordon's Distant?

Distant is slated to hit US movie fans on January 27, first opening exclusively in theaters. The film then opens in the UK on February 10.

Heated Rivalry 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Letterkenny veteran Jacob Tierney wrote and directed the six-part series about two rising hockey stars who fall passionately in love. Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin entered the NHL in 2005. For more than 20 years, the Canadian star and his Russian counterpart have waged one of the greatest rivalries in the sport. They've won titles, medals, and scoring crowns, and both are still playing (with the same franchises that drafted them), having earned their place among hockey's all-time elite. Creator: Jacob Tierney Stars: Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, Callan Potter That's the underlying premise at the heart of HBO Max and Crave's new six-part romantic drama, Heated Rivalry, based on the book by Rachel Reid and written and directed by Letterkenny veteran Jacob Tierney. Don't expect many direct similarities to Letterkenny, though. Heated Rivalry may have some comedic elements, as relationships between passionate men are often entertaining, but it's a sincere a...

Dhurandhar 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Dhurandhar's story unfolds against the backdrop of significant terrorist attacks in India, focusing particularly on harrowing incidents such as the hijacking of flight IC-814 in Kandahar in 1999, the Parliament attack in 2001, and the devastating 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008. The film depicts a daring covert operation led by the head of India's Intelligence Bureau, Ajay Sanyal, played by R. Madhavan. The film delves into the underbelly of Karachi, particularly the dangerous Lyari region, following the journey of Hamza, played by Ranveer Singh.  Hamza is introduced as an Indian agent who infiltrates Karachi's notoriously violent gang culture to dismantle terrorist operations from within. Structured in several chapters, the film introduces the viewer to a complex narrative that explores themes of revenge, sacrifice, and national security. The first half successfully intertwines traumatic real-life events with fiction, creating a thought-provoking plot that encourages audience...

Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The ending of Kantara: Chapter 1 returns us to the original film, a sequence in which young Shiva wonders what happened to the well that physically existed there many years ago, when the Naga tribe lived in harmony with nature, only to be forced to endure the invasion and destruction of the land they were supposed to protect.  The film is a winding tale of three cultures, two of which seem to drive the story about class and greed similarly to the original film; however, the third element is the Kadapa tribe, a people who seek to appropriate the power of the deities for themselves rather than worship them. At its core, it's a film about unity. It's about bringing people together to merge tradition with contemporary ideology. Kantara: Chapter 1 takes us directly into the heart of the Bangra Kingdom, a prosperous state with trade and all modern amenities, but with a powerful and greedy king. Director: Rishab Shetty Writers: Rishab Shetty, Anirudh Mahesh, Shanil Guru Stars: Rishab ...
