When a door opens, Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard close it. The two actors have been cast in "Five Nights at Freddy's," Blumhouse's film adaptation of the popular survival horror game series.
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie is taking shape, and its updates suggest the wait will be worth it. There's no denying that Five Nights at Freddy's is a modern horror staple, but there are always concerns when adapting a video game for the big screen. There has been mystery surrounding the project and complicated development that has prevented Five Nights at Freddy's from reaching theaters.
Director: Emma Tammi
Writers: Scott Cawthon, Seth Cuddeback, Emma Tammi
Stars: Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson
However, production has been protracted but revealing of the film that Blumhouse wants to make. Updates to the movie have been erratic before, initially implying that Five Nights at Freddy's was in Hell development. However, 2022 has brought promising news that the movie is not only still in active development, but is scheduled to begin production in February 2023.
Like the original game, which released in 2014 and immediately became a viral sensation, the movie "Five Nights at Freddy's" will center on a troubled security guard at a local Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. During his first night, the restaurant's animatronic characters come to life, forcing the guard to outwit them if he hopes to survive a week of employment. In the game, the guard's survival methods are mainly manifested in opening and closing security doors; Presumably, the movie will be a bit more action-packed.
It has not been announced who Hutcherson and Lillard will play; production on the film will begin in February in New Orleans. Emma Tammi, who directed the 2018 horror film "The Wind" and two episodes of Hulu's "Into the Dark" anthology, will direct "Five Nights at Freddy's." She co-wrote the script with Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video game series, as well as Seth Cuddeback.
Blumhouse is producing the film in association with Striker Entertainment. Jim Henson's Creature Shop will bring Freddy and the other killer animatronics to the big screen. Cawthon and Blumhouse boss Jason Blum produce; Russell Binder is executive producer.
Since Cawthon first self-published the original game "Five Nights at Freddy's" for PC, the series has developed a large and very active fan base and spawned a multimedia franchise. To date, nine games in the series have been published; the last one, “Security Breach”, came out last year. Several other spin-off games, comics, and a trilogy of novels have also been released.
Hutcherson is represented by The Beddingfield Company, Gersh, and the law firm of Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox. Lillard is represented by A3, Silver Lining Ent, and attorney Wendy Heller.
