Several films have seamlessly combined live action and animation, such as Space Jam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Disney's Enchanted. While most of these innovative creations come from the West, the Japanese Disney+ original series, Dragons Of Wonderhatch, introduces a new perspective to the genre with its fusion of live-action and anime. Are you able to succeed in this endeavor? At its core, Dragons Of Wonderhatch is essentially an isekai, but it subverts the genre by having fantasy characters enter the real world, creating a reverse isekai narrative. Unlike the crossover approach seen in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? or Space Jam, Dragons Of Wonderhatch seamlessly transitions between live-action and anime sequences, maintaining a clear separation. This approach is more similar to Disney's Enchanted, where characters come to life in the real world and transition into animation only when they pass through the animated realm. Stars: Sena Nakajima, Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka The Dra...

Gladiators, pain freaks, brutes, clowns, real athletes, fake competitors: the stars of professional wrestling are all of those things. And back in the 1980s, when wrestling was reaching its cultural zenith, it almost seemed like you could divide the world between those who took wrestling to the level and those who dismissed it as a tasteless, vulgar, over-the-top joke. . However, it was never that simple. Even if you saw through the simulated nature of wrestling, you could still enjoy the theater as a cartoon show. And a lot of hardcore wrestling fans were really in on the joke. They knew, on some level, that they were watching staged hijinks, but that didn't stop them from experiencing it all as “real.”  Director: Sean Durkin Writer: Sean Durkin Stars: Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson If you're wondering how that kind of cognitive dissonance works, welcome to the America that professional wrestling helped create: an America in which Donald Trump, who used prof...

Fatherhood has a funny way of changing dynamics, even for the Dark Knight himself. In Amazon Prime's latest animated film, Batman takes on a distinctly different look: more lumberjack than superhero. Wearing dad jeans, a flannel shirt and sporting a full beard, Batman is not the protagonist tasked with rescuing Gotham City once again in the Christmas-themed “Merry Little Batman.” Instead, that responsibility falls to Damian, his energetic eight-year-old son, who appears to have inherited his father's prowess in fighting supervillains. Voiced by Yonas Kibreab, Damian radiates typical tween energy and engages in playful activities at the sprawling Wayne Manor. Meanwhile, his father Bruce Wayne (voiced by Luke Wilson) essentially retired after eradicating crime in Gotham City. However, when a “climate anomaly” in Nova Scotia demands Batman's attention, Damian finds himself under the watchful eye of the trusty Alfred (played by screen veteran James Cromwell). Director: Mike Ro...

Charlie teams up with Rollo's ex, Marcie (Morenca Baccarin), to find some evidence about Beggar that she had hidden in order to take down Beggar and avenge his crew. Fast Charlie is an adaptation of the 2001 crime novel Gun Monkeys by Victor Gischler. Attempts to adapt the novel to film had been made as early as 2009 when director Ryuhei Kitamura was slated to direct from a script by Lee Goldberg, but it fell into development hell until producer Dan Grodnik acquired the project and resurrected it. as a directorial vehicle for Phillip Noyce with Richard Wenk of the Denzel Washington Equalize...

It's been nearly a quarter of a century since Aardman invented its first feature film, and the generation that opted for "Chicken Run," excited by the novelty of watching a pseudo-serious genre film made silly by an ensemble of poultry in stop-motion, has grown. until they are parents. Distributed by DreamWorks, the 2000 cartoon reimagined “The Great Escape” with chickens, as a doomed flock plots to fly into the chicken coop of a World War II-style concentration camp run by the intimidating Mrs. Tweedy. In the tasty (if juvenile) Netflix-commissioned sequel, “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” it's the other way around... or, as the passionate Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) says in her trailer-ready motivational speech. “Last time we escaped from a chicken farm. Well, this time we're going in! While the tongue-in-cheek original was a parody of war movies, “Nugget” serves as a riff on “Mission: Impossible”-style action movies, putting Ginger in charge of an operation to ...
