Netflix's new Danish romance series, Mango, revolves around Lærke, an established architect who worked for the real estate firm Weltzer and had practically dedicated her life to it. She had always wanted to build something from scratch in Málaga, but when her boss, Joan, offered her the opportunity, she wasn't sure it was the right time. She had promised her daughter, Agnes, that she would take her to Bornholm and didn't want to cancel her plans.
However, her boss was persistent and encouraged her to bring Agnes with her to Málaga. Her daughter wasn't happy about the sudden change of plans, but Lærke didn't have much of a choice. Her job was to convince the owner of a mango farm to sell his property to Weltzer, and Joan was confident that Lærke would succeed. Although neither Lærke nor Agnes expected to spend their vacation in Málaga, they soon realized it was probably for the best.

Lærke was surprised to see Alex at the mango farm; They had already crossed paths on another flight. Lærke had refused to give up his seat to a child who wanted to sit by the window, and after overhearing the argument, Alex offered him his own. So, naturally, Lærke was well aware that he hadn't made a good impression on Alex. Although he owed 4.9 million kroner, Alex refused to sell the land. It wasn't about making a profit; he was deeply attached to the place and believed it was his duty to keep the mango farm running.
He tried introducing new products to attract customers, but without much success. Alex made it very clear that he wasn't interested in Weltzer's proposal and that there was no way to change his mind. Lærke understood Alex's attachment to the place, especially after learning that Alex had lost his wife and family in a fire on the farm. He had only managed to rescue Paula, Mari's sister, and she was his only remaining family. Mari had introduced Alex to life on the farm, and he felt it was his duty to care for it to honor her memory and the love they shared for the place. Lærke wasn't willing to pressure Alex into doing something he wasn't ready for.
Instead, she proposed building a hotel around the mango grove. She was confident that hotel guests would enjoy a stroll through the grove while enjoying a luxurious stay. A community-run hotel would create jobs; all the farm employees would keep their positions, and the farm would be well-maintained, with 24-hour water, cell phone coverage, and electricity. The arrangement would benefit both the locals and the company. Alex was impressed and thought it was an idea worth considering, but Joan disagreed. She instructed Lærke to close the deal so they could simply build a hotel on the farm.
Lærke wasn't sure she wanted to meet the company's expectations. Although they got off to a rocky start, Alex and Lærke forged a beautiful friendship. Both had been too preoccupied with their lives to think about love, so when they finally met, they realized that exploring a romantic possibility wasn't a bad idea. When Alex drove Agnes home after she got drunk at a party, Lærke invited him for a drink. They felt a physical attraction and decided to give it a try. Alex stayed that night, and the next morning, when he went to the kitchen to get something to eat, he saw Lærke's phone after it vibrated repeatedly and read a message from Joan. He wondered if Lærke had approached him just to convince him to sign the papers. Lærke was embarrassed to realize that Alex had figured out that his company simply wanted his farm and wasn't interested in the community model she had proposed. Alex felt betrayed and left.
Agnes was passionate about architecture and was devastated when she was rejected from the architecture school she had applied to. To make matters worse, her mother also ruined her holiday plans, and Agnes was incredibly frustrated when they ended up in Málaga. But that was before she met Paula. Lærke left her in the car to talk to Alex when Agnes decided to go off on her own. She met Paula at the farm and they hit it off immediately. They were almost the same age, and Paula showed Agnes her life and the places she loved in Málaga. Agnes had found a best friend and no longer had any reason to be angry with her mother. During the trip, Lærke confessed that the reason she had drifted apart from Agnes over time was because she genuinely felt she didn't have much to offer: just an empty apartment and her terrible company. In contrast, Tom, her ex-husband, had always been a more present father. He had remarried and was expecting a child. So, every time I went to pick Agnes up from her house, I felt like I was taking her far away.
Agnes encouraged her mother to confess her feelings to Alex, but Lærke believed she wasn't cut out for relationships because she always disappointed people. Agnes showed her mother a photo of herself and Alex, telling her that the picture reflected how happy Alex was to have Lærke in his life. She hoped Lærke would focus on finding a solution to the problem instead of simply giving up. She wanted her mother to know that she loved her and that she was important to her. Agnes's faith in Lærke helped her realize that perhaps love was worth a try. The trip helped mother and daughter reconnect, and they finally learned to be vulnerable with each other. Lærke understood that her daughter wasn't expecting perfection from her; all she wanted was her presence.
When Lærke returned to Denmark, she was surprised to find that Alex had signed the papers and that Weltzer was ready to take over the farm. So what made Alex change his mind? Alex didn't mind the effort and hard work it took to keep the farm running, but he worried that his decision might not be the right one for Paula's future. She had always wanted to be a pilot, and although she never mentioned her secret desire to fly after the fire, Alex always knew she was still fascinated by the idea. Selling the farm would help Alex finance Paula's dream, and he had realized that securing her future was all that mattered. Lærke decided to quit her job because she wasn't comfortable seeing Alex lose the land he had always cherished. Since Alex had fourteen days to change his mind, she decided to step in and offer him an alternative. For all those years, she had worked tirelessly, with almost no personal life, and she thought it might be time to start something of her own. She sold her apartment and borrowed money so she could work on the community hotel idea she had come up with. Lærke and Agnes returned to Málaga, but Alex refused to speak to Lærke. She somehow convinced him to give her a chance and explained her ambitious plan. Alex was amazed; here was a woman who had sold her apartment because she knew how important it was for him to keep the farm running. Alex withdrew his consent to Weltzer and decided to partner with Lærke to bring his business idea to fruition.
Lærke was impressed when she saw Agnes's project and thought she could use the plan as the basis for a community housing design she had been considering. Agnes had envisioned a place with small houses built from biomaterials that would run on solar energy and thermal heating, and that would be accessible to all members of the community. There would be a shared water and heating system, and the idea was to create a dynamic and environmentally friendly community space.
The Mango finale revealed that Lærke and Alex stuck to the plan, and after a year, the space Agnes had envisioned for her project was almost a reality. Paula enrolled in a flight institute, and she was already on top of the world! Agnes and Paula remained best friends. Since Agnes's idea was already underway, there was no doubt she would receive immediate recognition once the community hotel opened its doors, and perhaps even have the opportunity to attend an even better architecture school than the one she had applied to.
Alex and Lærke were not only in love but also business partners. After the risk Lærke had taken, Alex no longer doubted her intentions. Moreover, Lærke was finally able to work on her dream project. She had always wanted to build something from scratch, and who would have imagined she would find the answer in Málaga? Given the originality of the idea, there was no doubt her efforts would be recognized and the hotel would attract worldwide attention. Lærke, Alex, Agnes, and Paula had become like family, and they were clearly happy to have found each other.
