Maargan 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Maargan is the story of a police officer whose daughter was murdered by an anonymous killer, turning his life upside down. He discovered that the killer didn't stop and continued to kill many more innocent people. So let's find out who the killer was, what his motive was for murdering people, and whether he was finally caught. At the beginning of the film, we saw that a girl, while walking home late at night, was grabbed by a masked assailant. This person injected her with a drug, causing her entire body to turn black, and she soon died. The killer threw her into a trash bin and escaped. Mumbai Police Assistant Constable Dhruv Guvarak wanted to lead the investigation but wasn't allowed due to his past. His superiors felt he was unfit to lead such a high-profile investigation because he simply wasn't stable enough. But Dhruv was a stubborn man and decided to use his connections to ensure he was part of the investigation, even if it was unofficially. The reason Dhruv was ...

Chief of War 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Even for a series directed and created by Jason Momoa, there might be too much of him in the first episode of Apple TV's Chief of War. It wouldn't have stood out in an otherwise decisive and solid plot, which has its essence in the right place: keeping Hawaii's history close to its roots. But the problem is that almost every anecdote that acquaints us with Hawaiian culture and traditions of the late 18th century has Momoa at the center. That takes away from the spontaneity, nothing more. But other than that, Chief of War does a promising job of laying the groundwork for a radical change in the political and spiritual landscape of the Hawaiian Islands at the end of the 18th century. We still don't know all the key players. But the story remembers Ka'iana as the center of change. And so does Chief of War. The part of Hawaii's history that the narrator reveals to us owes many of its significant movements and positive changes to a very real Hawaiian warrior, Ka'...

The Defects 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

The 2025 Korean drama, The Defects, appears to be a rather original work about genetically modified children. It's an examination of Korean parents' obsession with "perfect" children. I suppose artificial youth has been around for many years, but it hasn't reached this level yet. The series premiered four episodes today, all very captivating, with a fast-paced and very realistic story. It begins with the kidnapping of a young girl to be murdered, before she suddenly grows up and lives in hiding. While the possibility of something like this happening in real life seems impossible, this K-drama reminds us that we have become inhuman enough to be able to return "defective" parts, even if they are real children. But I won't waste any more time and go straight to the recap of the first four episodes of The Defects. Episode 1 of The Defects begins in 2011, where a young girl is kidnapped by two men. One of these men is Tae-Sik, whom this girl will affectio...

Unspeakable Sins 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Unspeakable Sins, the 18-episode Netflix crime thriller, keeps you hooked thanks to its fast-paced pace and the sheer number of events and developments that occur at every turn. It's the story of the Martínez family, who found themselves in a mess when the patriarch, Claudio, was kidnapped by unknown assailants. It was then that the family's dark secrets began to come to light, wreaking havoc on the lives of those involved. Let's find out what happened in the first season of Unspeakable Sins, how the situation ended for the family members, and if they managed to overcome the conflicts that arose. The Martínez family was probably the wealthiest and most influential in the entire Mexico City region, but that didn't mean everything was fine between them. Claudio Martínez, the patriarch, didn't like his son Octavio at all. He belittled him whenever he had the chance. I agree that Claudio would have had his own reasons for treating his son that way, but being the head of...

An Honest Life 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

2019 was a big year for films about classism. The most popular of all was Parasite, which not only addressed the vast economic gap between the upper and lower classes but also highlighted how this leads to a lack of class solidarity among the lower classes. Knives Out was a sharp commentary on how the rich can't even imagine sharing their property and wealth with the son of an immigrant, even though, morally and ethically speaking, the latter had more right to his inheritance than the former.  Article 15 proved that it's pointless to talk about the class divide without mentioning caste, and the list goes on. While, in real life, the COVID-19 pandemic underscored that the aforementioned class gap is deeper than we had imagined, entertainment took a strange turn by celebrating "classy behavior" under the guise of "criticizing" it. And now, with films like Delicious and, today's topic, An Honest Life, it seems that storytellers are hell-bent on turning the ...

Dusty Slay: Wet Heat 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Whenever I'm commissioned to write about a stand-up comedy series, I make sure to do a little research on the performers beforehand—those I'm not familiar with, of course. As a critic, I feel it's my responsibility to familiarize myself with the style of comedy the performer brings to the set. The reason is that stand-up comedy, in my humble opinion, is a very complex art form and probably has millions of subgenres that many of us aren't aware of. For example, I'll admit I had no idea "working-class comedy" existed before I was commissioned to review comedian Dusty Slay's latest Netflix special, titled Wet Heat.  Slay is an American comedian from the South, and his specialty is working-class comedy. You wouldn't find a clear description on Google (I tried), but what I gather is that it's a type of comedy based on working-class life, like many jokes that are based on situations as everyday as a man buying a bottle of water and having a conversat...

Trainwreck: Storm Area 51 2025 TV Series Review Trailer Poster

Many of us might remember the strange incident from 2019, when social media erupted with a particularly bold and surprising call to action: to storm Area 51 and discover what exactly was going on behind closed doors at America's most secretive military base. Given the magnitude and hype surrounding the incident, and its occurrence at a time when internet culture was already at its peak, it was pretty obvious that someone, somewhere, was documenting the whole thing in great detail. The latest episode of the Netflix documentary series, Trainwreck, presents the full incident and the people involved in the two-part Storm Area 51 episode. The first moments of the strange and frenetic Storm Area 51 event began with a podcast episode on The Joe Rogan Experience in June 2019, in which two ufologists, Jeremy Corbell and Bob Lazar, discussed America's most secretive military base: Area 51. Lazar claimed to have worked as an engineer at this highly confidential facility on a classified go...

WWE: Unreal 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

When WWE arrived on Netflix on January 6, 2025, “sports entertainment” reached its widest reach yet. The deal that brought Monday Night Raw (and, outside the U.S., all WWE productions) to the streaming platform was a handshake between two PR-savvy pop culture giants, and Netflix’s new docuseries, WWE: Unreal, is where their artistry and commerce meet. It’s also where the latter often triumphs, burning the tensions underpinning creative endeavors to a crisp and sweeping them under the rug.  Considered a behind-the-scenes saga and the first glimpse into pro wrestling’s writers’ rooms, Unreal promises exclusive exposure. But it is, to quote the wrestling lingo that has become everyday vocabulary in our hyperconnected, always-on, and fervently fanatical age, a masterpiece. Unreal is pure marketing, a five-episode ploy to attract new viewers to Raw, SmackDown, and the Royal Rumble. Even that promise to put the writers in the spotlight goes virtually unfulfilled. Stars: CM Punk, Cody Rho...

Mongrels 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Jerome Yoo's Mongrels is a meditative exploration of grief and uncertain new beginnings. The film is divided into three parts: God, Cowboy, and Blonde, and each segment focuses on one of the three main characters. A father, son, and daughter emigrated from Korea to start a new life in Canada. This was supposed to be the good life they were promised, but dealing with the unknown was challenging. At the heart of the film is each character's sense of grief and reaction to this constant agony. Sonny had a strange connection with animals, particularly dogs; it was almost as if he could communicate with them. Scott Larson hired him to kill the mixed-breed dogs that lived in the area. He considered the animals a threat to livestock, crops, and humans. Sonny was tasked with killing the wild dogs, and he experienced a sense of contradiction because, in a way, he identified with these creatures more than anything else in the foreign country. The only way Sonny could make a living in Can...

Fragment 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The Korean film Fragment tells the shocking story of a murder. But it has an unexpected twist. The protagonists are not directly involved in the murder. They are the children of the murderer and the victim. It's truly astonishing how thrillers have unhinged us so much, to the point of always being eager to uncover the mysteries, never seeing beyond the crime. Of course, those left behind deserve our full attention. Are the children of a murderer violent enough to become criminals? What does the pain of losing loved ones turn you into? A monster or an angel? What effects does such a crime have on young minds? These are the many questions raised by the Korean drama thriller Fragment. Fragment's premise is deeply captivating and, for me, an instant hit. However, in the process of delivering an aesthetically stunning film, much of its purpose sometimes falls away, making the usual runtime feel too long. The film has a chilling atmosphere, not only because of the plot, but also beca...
