The Nigerian Netflix drama Baby Farm follows the life of Adanna, a woman who entrusted her child to a charity, as they promised to provide free maternity services to those in need. However, she discovered their true intentions were to steal the baby. Adanna wasn't the only woman to fall into the maternity clinic's trap, and once caught, she realized that child trafficking was far more widespread than she imagined. Let's find out how Adanna got out of the mess and if she managed to expose those responsible.
Adanna was in a relationship with Obi Okoyi and had imagined her entire life with him. One day, she found out she was pregnant and told Obi, knowing she would need his support in whatever plan they took. Obi told her he wouldn't abandon her and would make sure they resolved the issue together. But none of that happened, and Adanna was left to fend for herself. The poor woman was already under a lot of stress, and to top it all off, her family was furious with her when they found out about the pregnancy. She lived in an orthodox society, and carrying a child out of wedlock was considered a sin. Adanna's mother confided in her.

She said Adanna could have improved her life by studying, but instead, she chose to wander around with a useless boy and ruin her life. Adanna learned that Obi's family had sent him to Lagos because they wanted him to cut off all ties with them. Adanna never saw Obi again after that day, even though she tried to look for him. Adanna didn't tell her parents before she left. She didn't know why she did it, but at the time, she felt it was the right thing to do. Adanna wandered the streets aimlessly, not knowing where to look for her lover. One day, she bumped into an escort who told her she could take her to a place where she would be cared for.
The woman dropped Adanna off at the clinic of Dr. Oliver Evans and his wife, Barbara. The couple offered free maternity services to disadvantaged and oppressed people. But Adanna didn't know at the time that it was just a front for the illegitimate business they were involved in. Evans and Barbara ran a baby factory where a group of women were held captive, forcibly impregnated, and then sold to wealthy individuals.
The reason people were willing to pay Evans such a large sum was that there were many rules and regulations that had to be followed if one chose to adopt a baby through legitimate means. Sometimes, couples had criminal records or simply didn't meet the requirements, so they chose to hire the services of people like Dr. Evans. At first, Adanna felt very fortunate to have found such kind people, but she slowly began to understand what Barbara and Evans were up to. Adanna told Barbara that she no longer wanted to stay at the clinic, and it was then that she realized she was trapped there and wouldn't be let go so easily.
At the beginning of Baby Farm, we saw that a woman named Ify arrived at the clinic asking for her sister, Em. The truth was that Em had been murdered by Dr. Evans and his team after she disobeyed his orders and tried to keep her baby. There were times when women tried to escape the facility or fought with Evans to be allowed to keep their babies. Evans gave them a couple of warnings, and if they still didn't obey his orders, he'd have them killed. Rampant corruption had eroded the very foundations of the nation, so Evans knew he could bribe his way out of any situation. There was a young blogger and journalist named Joy, who became curious about what Evans and his wife were up to when she saw a famous actress, Cherise, at their maternity clinic.
She had checked into many adoption centers in England and Europe, but knew they wouldn't allow her to adopt because of her criminal record. Back then, Cherise was accused of drug possession, and Akin, her partner, took the blame so as not to tarnish Cherise's image. Cherise met Barbara at a meeting, and Barbara told her she could help her adopt a baby. Joy began her own investigation and ran into Ify outside the clinic, hoping to get answers about her sister's disappearance. Once Ify told her about her disappearance, Joy realized what Evans and Barbara were up to. The problem was that Evans found out Joy was collaborating with Ify and realized they could hurt their business together. Evans realized Joy wouldn't stop until she ratted them out, so he sent his men to eliminate her. Joy met a fatal end, but Ify narrowly escaped. Ebun was the first woman brought to the clinic, and Barbara had a strange emotional connection with her.
Ebun had been pregnant six times in the past six years, but unfortunately, each time some complication arose that caused her to lose her babies. Ebun was raped at age 12 by her own stepfather, and her mother, instead of saving her young daughter from a predator, told her it was her fault for courting her husband. Being so young, Ebun accepted everything her mother told her. Ebun had arrived at the clinic so young that she was unaware of how the outside world worked, so Barbara was sure that even if she let her escape, she would eventually return.
Adanna, during her stay at the clinic, attempted to escape twice, but each time, Barbara and Evans found out about her plan. She realized that someone was leaking information and spying on them. One of the women, named Itunu, who was extremely sweet to Adanna, told her that she had doubts about Ebun, as he had visited Barbara quite frequently. The truth was, it was Itunu who was leaking information, while trying to blame Ebun for being an easy target. Because Ebun was in such a fragile mental state, Barbara sometimes forced her to tell her things. Barbara knew how to manipulate someone and make them feel extremely guilty and apologize for their actions.
Adanna knew deep down that Ebun wasn't dishonest, so she decided to trust her. In addition to an insider among the women, there was someone trying to help Adanna. She received some random notes where this anonymous person asked Adanna not to trust anyone. The anonymous person helping Adanna left her a key so she could use it to open the back door and escape the clinic. As Adanna and Ebun were about to leave, Itunu asked them to take her as well.
Just as they were about to open the door, Itunu started screaming, making it clear that she was the snitch. Adanna could barely walk, as she was so close to her due date, and realized she wouldn't be able to escape the guards. She told Ebun to escape and seek help outside. Ebun was terrified, not knowing how she would survive in the outside world. But Adanna made her promise not to let her down so that together they could expose Dr. Evans and save the lives of all the women living at the baby farm.
Adanna gave birth to twins, and it was decided that the babies would be given up for adoption to Cherise and Akin. Cherise had also decided to become an ambassador for the Evans Clinic, feeling it was all for a good cause. Meanwhile, Ebun managed to find Ify and tell her the truth about the maternity clinic. She told her that Dr. Evans had murdered her sister for not obeying him. Ify decided to fight for justice and expose Dr. Evans. Ify managed to contact Cherise and tell her what Evans and Barbara were up to.
Cherise, a little bewildered, decided to cut off all ties with Evans and not adopt through him. At the end of Baby Farm, it was revealed that a woman named Eniye was helping Adanna. She was the one who left the note and the key. Eniye was quite good at acting, and from the start, she gave the impression that she didn't understand anything. She didn't speak, and people assumed she was suffering from some cognitive impairment. That assumption gave Eniye free reign, and she was able to move relatively freely within the clinic. This is how she gathered all the information and then relayed it to Adanna. When Eniye saw that Adanna hadn't been able to escape once again, she decided to reveal her identity and tell her her escape plan.
