The official trailer for Obliterated, released on September 27, offers a look at the series' fast-paced action and sets the tone for what to expect. The trailer features the special forces team going through a tense moment of bomb disposal, celebrating what appears to be a successful victory at a party, and then receiving a chilling phone call indicating the existence of a real bomb. As the team dives back into the action, the trailer shows off their dynamic and hints at Obliterated's more adult tone, a departure from the family-friendly approach seen in the creators' previous work on Cobra Kai.
During Netflix's Geeked Week event, a new clip from Obliterated was unveiled, previewing a sequence that follows the team's awareness of the real bomb threat. The clip shows the team stopping a party bus and quickly shifting their focus to chase a mysterious vehicle, suggesting a connection to the impending explosion.
Obliterated's narrative centers on an elite special forces team that successfully neutralizes a deadly bomb threat in Las Vegas. However, their celebration, fueled by drugs, sex and alcohol, takes a sharp turn when they discover that the bomb they defused was a decoy. The real threat still lurks, and the team embarks on a mission to locate and disarm the genuine bomb, overcoming personal challenges and intoxication along the way.
In an interview with Netflix, series creator Jon Hurwitz explained that Obliterated began as a movie but evolved into a television series to give the characters more depth and nuanced plots:
Obliterated features a diverse cast that includes talent across the main team, recurring roles, and guest stars. The main cast includes Nick Zano as Chad McKnight, the leader of the SEAL team, known for his roles in Legends of Tomorrow, Minority Report and DC's One Big Happy. Shelley Hennig plays Ava, a CIA agent and co-leader of the special forces team, recognized for her work on Teen Wolf and Dollface. Paola Lázaro plays Angela, the team's sniper, with previous credits on The Walking Dead and Lethal Weapon.

Kimi Rutledge stars as Maya, an NSA tech and skilled hacker, with notable roles in short films and Half Sisters. Alyson Gorske plays Lana, with recent appearances in The Puppetman and Shrinking. C. Thomas Howell plays Hagerty, the team's bomb technician, known for his role on The Outsiders and his recent work on Netflix's Old Dads and his recurring roles on Criminal Minds and SEAL Team. Eugene Kim rounds out the main cast as Paul, the team's helicopter pilot, with guest appearances in Magnum P.I., Animal Kingdom, and The Lincoln Lawyer.
Recurring cast members include Carl Lumbly as CIA Director James Langdon, Costa Ronin as Ivan, a Russian arms dealer, David Costabile, Lindsey Kraft, Tobias Jelinek, Minnie Mills and Jason Mantzoukas.
