Disco Inferno 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

One woman we soon discover is Sister Lynn (Helene Udy) crying in a Catholic confessional. She becomes increasingly upset as she cries and laments for herself because she always wanted to have a child of her own but she couldn't, and now she has one of her own, she was stolen from a woman she killed. Then we realize that she has blood on her hands. Moments later, the priest enters the room and there is Lynn, hanging from the end of a rope. It's 1955. Now we are in 1973. The church is no longer a church, it is a nightclub called Inferno. Mel (Bringas) and her boyfriend Brandon (Stephen Ruffin) rehearse for the club's opening dance contest. There's eyeshadow up here and lapels up there. They get along quite well together, although they are nursing some nerves. Mel suddenly runs to the bathroom to throw up, and you know what that means, because in movies, female characters don't throw up for any reason unless they're pregnant. She still isn't 100 percent sure, ...

Miracle in East Texas Movie Review Trailer Poster

It's been a long time since I've reviewed a movie, but I was invited to preview Miracle in East Texas and was intrigued by the trailer. So while my daughter was in town visiting, we got ready for a girls' movie night. I can't say the movie blew us away, but it did make us laugh a little. According to the Miracle in East Texas movie website, the story is inspired by the unlikely but true story of two elderly con artists at the dawn of the Great Depression and the largest oil strike in world history. Being rigorous with history, we tried to investigate how much truth was intertwined. At first, all we could find was a large oil strike in East Texas in 1901. But, according to the Texas State Historical Association, there was, in fact, a 1930 Oil Strike led by two shady oilmen. Director: Kevin Sorbo Writer: Dan Gordon Stars: Tyler Mane, John Ratzenberger, Kevin Sorbo That said, the movie is much more story than truth, and that's okay. The film Miracle in East Texas begi...

Sister Death 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Sister Death is a visually stunning horror film with great set and costume design, an unsettling atmosphere, and a lack of music that heightens the suspense. The Verónica prequel explores the origins of Sister Narcisa's blindness and her battle against faith and religion, uncovering dark secrets and tortured souls. Director: Paco Plaza Writer: Jorge Guerricaechevarría Stars: Aria Bedmar, Almudena Amor, Maru Valdivielso  Although it has few scares, Paco Plaza creates a terrifying atmosphere for fans of religious horror, and Aria Bedmar gives a fantastic performance as the main character. Sister Death is a visually impressive horror film in the sense that it is well shot, has great set design, and wonderful costumes and makeup, all of which help create the ghostly atmosphere of a specific time and place. The old-school 4:3 aspect ratio continues a surprising new trend in smaller films in recent years (A Ghost Story, First Reformed, Son of Saul, American Honey), and allows the i...

Pain Hustlers 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

It's hard to take your eyes off Emily Blunt in the true-life Netflix caper Pain Hustlers, the actress in her brightest movie star prime, a rare lead role in a movie where she's not being chased by aliens. or, even worse. , being forced to joke with Dwayne Johnson. As one of our best and most versatile celebrities working today, it's frustrating that Blunt is also one of the least used, until this summer's Oppenheimer (where she struggles to make the most of her "wifey").  Her only “one of hers for her” option in recent years was 2020's absolutely baffling Wild Mountain Thyme, a film that not even she could save. Her magnetism is both a blessing and a curse here for director David Yates, because she gives his film a boost it doesn't deserve or always know what to do with, her performance rising far above anything he surrounds her. Director: David Yates Writers: Wells Tower, Evan Hughes Stars: Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Catherine O'Hara For a brief p...

Priscilla 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The last time Sofia Coppola made a movie about a teenage royal living in a rococo palace that turned out to be a luxurious prison, it was in 2006, and the movie, “Marie Antoinette,” was a stylized dream of history: the story of the young queen as a naive and isolated rock star.  Coppola's new film dramatizes the relationship between Priscilla and Elvis Presley, and the parallels to the previous film are there if you want to see them. This time, however, Coppola goes in the opposite direction, working with a casually meticulous docudrama authenticity.  Director: Sofia Coppola Writers: Sofia Coppola, Sandra Harmon, Priscilla Presley Stars: Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Ari Cohen In the 17 years since “Marie Antoinette,” he has grown as a filmmaker: His storytelling now has an organic detail and emotional precision that grips you. Last year's Elvis Presley biopic was called "Elvis." The book on which the new movie was based was “Elvis and I.” But Coppola's film is si...

Under the Christmas Sky 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

We love movies that tug at our heartstrings and even make us shed a tear or two, and this one promises to do just that. Despite her family's best efforts to lift her spirits with holiday traditions like baking cookies, decorating trees, and Christmas shopping, Kat still longs for her lost passion. That's when...

Milli Vanilli 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

A strong argument could be made that the year 1989, especially in the realm of pop music, was dominated by Milli Vanilli.. This German-French pop duo, formed just a year earlier by German producer Frank Farian, had already swept the European music charts with their debut single, "Girl You Know It's True." The track hit US airwaves in March, creating an astronomical impact.  Director: Luke Korem Stars: Sabrina Salerno, Diane Warren, Downtown Julie Brown Their first album sold over 8 million copies and spawned three number one singles, firmly securing their place in the top 10 for the entire year. As the director of a new documen...

Curses! 2023 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

“The Curse” lives up to the expectations of edginess and intelligence that come with its creators, Nathan Fielder, known for his experimental work on “The Rehearsal,” and actor and independent filmmaker Benny Safdie, who stars alongside Emma Stone.  Ostensibly a satire about a married couple producing a home improvement pilot in Española, New Mexico, this series takes a fascinating dive into the complexities of television, relationships, privilege, and trust. His wry humor punctuates the narrative, providing moments of levity in an intentionally off-kilter story. Creators: Jim Cooper, Jeff Dixon Stars: Rhys Darby, James Marsters, Gabrielle Nevaeh Fielder and Stone play Asher and Whitney Siegel, who aspire to become the next household names in home improvement, similar to Chip and Joanna Gaines. Their program, “Philanthropy,” is designed not only to bring them fame but also to create jobs and green housing solutions for a community struggling with unemployment and gentrificati...

Kandasamys: The Baby 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The only confusing thing about Kandasamys: The Baby, Netflix's latest South African comedy-drama, is probably its abrupt changes in tone. One moment it's a cringe comedy backed by crude humor, and then suddenly it's a drama built on serious and relevant themes. Unfortunately, he fails at most things he tries. However, considering this is the fourth entry in the Kandasamys film series, I'm sure the franchise has an audience. If you have seen the last one randomly and are in a slightly perplexed state, then this article will clear all your doubts. However, I don't think the movie would have left you with too many. Jodi and Prishen are about to become first-time parents. The couple is about to receive a visit from their parents, who will travel from South Africa to Mauritius. The couple isn't too keen on their families meddling in the whole pregnancy thing, and considering how suffocated I started to feel fifteen minutes after being introduced to Jodie's mothe...

Boudica: Queen of War 2023 Movie Review Trailer Poster

Something you could never call Jesse Johnson is accommodating. Just a few months ago, his 21st century western, One Ranger, was released. Now, she presents Boudica: Queen of War, a film that swaps Johnson's typical pulpy crime narratives for a blood-soaked version of the story of Boudica, a legendary British queen who waged war against her Roman oppressors in the year 60. AD It's a far cry from the modern prisons and alleys that DTV action fans are more accustomed to seeing, but the transition makes sense if you've been following Johnson's recent filmography. After all, 2021's Hell Hath No Fury transposed its style of DTV action into a World War II nonsense about a woman fighting Nazis. Johnson seems committed to trying out as many subgenres as possible, and it's hard to deny that he's evolving as an artist. Director: Jesse V. Johnson Writer: Jesse V. Johnson Stars: Olga Kurylenko, Clive Standen, Peter Franzén Normally, I wouldn't be too excited about a...
