I absolutely loved this BTS live-streamed event on Netflix, even though it took place at 6:00 a.m. (Central Time) in the United States. The plaza and streets of Seoul, Korea, were packed to 110% capacity for this comeback concert, marking the return of all seven members from their mandatory military service.
They admitted to feeling nervous and anxious as they finally stepped onto the stage together, yet they also appeared incredibly humble and grateful. It is hard to imagine what they must have felt as they made their first entrance—seeing the crowd and their fans, and wanting to give them nothing but their very best.
Director: Hamish Hamilton
Stars: BTS, RM, Jin
They performed several new songs that will be featured on an upcoming album and explained to the audience how they had come together to define the evolution of "BTS 2.0"; they noted that they are still working on it and asked their fans to stay by their side. They will soon be traveling to Los Angeles to work on the production of their album.
Everyone looked fantastic; they sported spectacular costumes, magnificent production values, and an exceptional troupe of backup dancers. I appreciated the way BTS performed in perfect unison while simultaneously maintaining their individuality, allowing each member's unique personality to shine through. However, there was one thing that left me wondering (perhaps because I’ve been a bit out of the loop regarding current events in the U.S., and I only became a K-Pop fan after they had left to fulfill their military service): why did it seem as though one of the members remained seated in a chair at the side of the stage, singing for much of the time? Was that part of the choreography, or was he injured, or was something else going on? I won't deduct any points from my rating for this detail, as I haven't been following the latest BTS news closely—beyond the hope that they might visit Chicago, a city where, apparently, tickets sold out incredibly fast.
Curious about the matter, I consulted an AI and discovered the answer: yes, indeed—he *was* injured. Yes: "RM suffered an ankle injury (ligament damage, swelling, and a sprain) during rehearsals, just a few days before the concert." Furthermore: "Doctors advised him to wear a brace and strictly limit his movements for at least two weeks to allow the injury to heal." I am sure he felt deeply disappointed when it happened, but it is far better to follow medical advice and recover properly, even if the process takes longer. Now that I know the details, I must acknowledge that the group did an excellent job adapting to the situation at the last minute.
An extraordinary effort on the part of everyone involved to pull off a production of such magnitude, broadcast live following such a prolonged period of absence.
