It's hard to believe that James Gunn's (The Suicide Squad) third and final Guardians of the Galaxy movie was almost not going to happen. While Marvel was certainly going to keep the characters for many movies to come, Gunn's vision for a trilogy was put in jeopardy when he was fired over a controversy revolving around some controversial jokes made on Twitter. The tweets from ten years ago were problematic and inappropriate to be sure, but they weren't necessarily malicious, and it didn't take long for Guardians fans and cast and crew alike to show their support for Gunn and push for his return. . to finish what he started. Fortunately, they succeeded in their goal, and James Gunn came back on board to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The galaxy's favorite band of misfits have been through a lot since we last saw them. Since the original 2014 movie, the gang has fought against a living planet, most of the team turning to dust after Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap before returning to fight the Mad Titan's forces, even embarking on some adventures with Thor. (Chris Hemsworth) himself. Their nearly ten-year journey has turned the unique group of characters from virtually unknowns into beloved fan favorites and a jewel in the crown of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director: James Gunn

Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of the Guardians in their own feature film, and hopefully the wait won't be much longer. Right after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) kicks off Phase 5, the final chapter of the Guardians franchise will be prepped and ready, and we finally got a public look at the new movie with a new trailer. Plus, we also got a deeper look at the movie at Marvel's wonderful San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, James Gunn and the rest of the cast revealing some crucial details and even a first. Exclusive look at the highly anticipated new film. The impressive presentation answered a few questions we all had, including the release date, the characters we'll be seeing, and the tone we can expect. For all these details and many more, just read on below to find out everything we know so far about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In the first of many looks at the highly anticipated trilogy, we see the Guardians together again, each wearing uniforms that look like they're straight out of the comics. They're a bit rusty as most of them left five years ago after being snapped out of existence by Thanos (Josh Brolin), as evidenced by the fact that the alien residents of a suburban Earth-like neighborhood treated them like hostile. We also see that the team's musical tastes have matured a bit, as the song played in the trailer is from the '90s with "In the Meantime" by Spacehog. We still see the team being aggressively hysterical, but also that this is going to be an emotional ride, with the main focus being on Rockey's (Bradley Cooper) origins, his history with new villain High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), and the reveal of that Rocket's loving otter from the comics, Lylla, will be in the movie. We also get a brief glimpse of classic comic character Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), but his role in the plot remains a total mystery.
Our initial look at the film came behind closed doors at the most recent San Diego Comic-Con, which showed a very different batch of footage to Hall H. That trailer begins with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), aka Star- Lord, and Nebula (Karen Gillan) has an encounter with a group of Ravagers, where Quill is shocked to discover that his beloved Gamora (Zoe Saldana) leads the group of space pirates. However, this she is not the girlfriend Quill knows, as the Gamora from his timeline was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. The Gamora in vol. 3 is from an alternate timeline in which she had yet to meet Quill and she was brought to the main MCU universe by Thanos from her universe. While Thanos and the rest of his forces were wiped out, Gamora was the only survivor, disappearing to find her place in this strange new dimension. The trailer continues with Quill trying to talk a reluctant Gamora out of the life they used to have before Infinity War.
Soon after, in true Guardians of the Galaxy fashion, a catchy tune accompanies the trailer, but it's something a little more modern than the 70s/80s music we've heard in the previous movies. The song in question is "Do You Realize", performed by The Flaming Lips and released recently in 2002.
