The Mexican suspense drama The Accident is about how a small mistake can have terrible consequences. The series begins with the joyful preparations for a birthday party. It was the birthday of lawyer Emiliano's son, and he wanted it to be perfect. Emiliano was also nervous about a business proposal involving turning a plot of land into an amusement park. He desperately wanted an American company to invest in the business, and he was very anxious about it.
Emiliano shared his vision with his son, Rodrigo, who was overjoyed when his father gave him a Barça soccer ball and tickets to a summer camp at the Barça Academy. Rodrigo declared that his father was the best dad in the world, and Emiliano, for a moment, felt overwhelmed. Gradually, Rodrigo's friends arrived at the party, and the children were excited to get on the bouncy castle. Their parents took pictures of them before they enjoyed the activities, unaware of the catastrophe that was about to occur.

A strong gust of wind carried away the bouncy castle, resulting in the tragic deaths of three children: Rodrigo, Mateo, and Gabo. The parents were unwilling to accept the tragic event as an accident, and they were desperate to blame someone. Brenda, Mateo's mother, rewatched a video she had recorded before the children got on the bouncy castle. She discovered that one of the stakes was loose and believed that the person responsible for setting up the bouncy castle was to blame for their loss.
They blamed Moncho, the caretaker who worked at Emiliano's house, for not doing his job properly. Gabo's father, Charro, was a violent and impulsive gangster who was determined to punish Moncho. He drove to the caretaker's house and dragged him out into the street. He repeatedly punched and kicked him and finally set his house on fire. Daniela, Emiliano's wife and a police officer, bravely entered the burning house and rescued Moncho's two children.
When the police arrived, they arrested both Moncho and Charro. Moncho consistently denied the accusation, and his wife Yola was convinced that the wealthy parents had conspired against her husband. Gradually, it was revealed that Emiliano was responsible for the accident. Moncho was setting up the inflatable castle when Emiliano asked him to go get ice, and he offered to fix the stake. But Emiliano received a call from the American company and became distracted. He was so stressed about the American investment that he completely forgot about the inflatable castle.
By the time he realized his mistake, the inflatable castle was already floating in the air. Emiliano felt guilty and wanted to confess the truth to his family and the police, but his partners prevented him. They feared that Emiliano's involvement in the death of the three children would jeopardize the deal they had made with the Americans. They would lose all their money, and the loss would be irreparable. Emiliano was forced to remain silent. He, along with his partners, bribed Moncho: they promised to help his family move to the United States and compensate them for the troubles they had suffered. Moncho was unwilling to plead guilty, but when Yola learned of the offer, she encouraged him to accept it. She believed it was a small sacrifice he would have to make for the sake of his family. Emiliano agreed to provide Moncho with legal assistance to minimize his sentence. Moncho didn't have many options and decided to make this sacrifice for his family.
The young Alex and LucÃa were in love, but before their romance could blossom, tragedy struck their lives. LucÃa was Emiliano's eldest daughter and suffered from drug addiction. The loss of her brother left LucÃa with a great void, and she turned to Alex for comfort. Alex was Charro's son. He had grown up watching his stepfather abuse his mother, and Gabo was the only reason he hadn't run away from home.
LucÃa and Alex knew what it felt like to lose someone they loved dearly, and they bonded in their grief. Alex tried to help LucÃa with her addiction, but at a certain point, she refused to listen to him. He even ended up arrested while trying to protect LucÃa during a drug raid. LucÃa didn't know how to cope with the sudden loss and was completely devastated when she discovered that her father was responsible for Rodrigo's death.
She suspected her mother knew everything but had hidden the truth from her. Daniela tried to reason with her, but LucÃa wasn't willing to listen. She felt betrayed by her family, and the only person she could trust was Alex. After discovering that her mother had cheated on Charro, Alex felt a deep revulsion and decided to run away from home. After Charro attacked LucÃa to get revenge on Emiliano, Alex decided it was time for both of them to leave their homes.
LucÃa and Alex were planning to move to the United States. The only time Daniela was able to contact LucÃa, she realized that Alex was with her. Police officers were stationed at several checkpoints, and they had been given photographs of the two teenagers. LucÃa and Alex were stopped at one of these checkpoints, but they somehow managed to escape. While Alex was worried about not being able to leave Mexico, LucÃa was hungry and distracted. When they came across a nightclub, she insisted they take a short break. Alex quickly realized that LucÃa wanted alcohol and drugs to escape reality. He wanted to leave, but she refused. She met a girl in the restroom who offered her free drugs. When Emiliano and Daniela found LucÃa, she had already overdosed. They assumed Alex was responsible for their daughter's condition and told him to stay away from her.
It turned out that, thanks to Emiliano, LucÃa survived; if they had found her a little later, she wouldn't have made it. When LucÃa regained consciousness, she explained how much Alex had supported her and that he had nothing to do with her drug problem. LucÃa recovered and learned to forgive her family for their mistakes. LucÃa and Alex continued their relationship, and LucÃa joined a Narcotics Anonymous group to deal with her addiction. She also helped her mother catch the drug traffickers.
Charro not only wanted revenge on the man responsible for his son's death, but he also wanted a share of the business that Emiliano, David, and Javier were involved in. When Charro discovered that David had slept with his wife, he refused to forgive him. Although he had been with several women while married to Lupita, he thought his wife deserved to be punished for being unfaithful. From physical abuse to psychological torture, Lupita was subjected to repeated mistreatment. Charro was ready to kill David, but he decided to spare him after David confessed that it wasn't Mancho, but Emiliano, who was responsible for Gabo's death. Later, Charro kidnapped David's wife, Carla, and David had no choice but to agree to introduce Charro to the American investors.
Charro was involved in the construction business and wanted a piece of the pie. He knew he could manipulate David however he wanted, and that's exactly what he did. Charro presented himself to the Americans and promised to provide the best Mexican workforce and handle all the permits. The investors received Charro well, but also expressed their concern about Emiliano's situation. Javier assured them that the situation was under control now that Emiliano had been released on bail. The Americans returned home feeling reassured, but Charro was not happy with the recent developments and instructed his right-hand man, Peyote, to take care of the matter.

The ending of The Accident revealed that it was Lupita who had killed Moncho. She wanted revenge on the man who had killed her son. She feared that Charro wouldn't be able to get justice for her son, so she contacted a hitman. The hitman blackmailed Lupita, demanding more money and threatening to expose her if she didn't pay. She agreed to meet him at the cemetery where her son was buried. She reminded him that, according to their agreement, she had already made the only payment he had requested, but the hitman decided to take advantage of her. He demanded a million dollars and mentioned that he didn't mind spending some time in jail, but he would make sure Lupita got into trouble if she didn't pay. Before leaving, he took a green apple that Lupita had left on her son's grave. When he got to his car, he was already choking on the apple. It turned out that Lupita had poisoned the apple; she had guessed that he would be tempted to take a bite. Lupita not only poisoned the hitman, but she also left evidence that would implicate her husband in the murder. Lupita wanted to get rid of Charro, and what better way than to involve him in a murder case? Charro was arrested for double homicide, and Lupita and Alex finally breathed a sigh of relief. She had promised her son that they would always be together, and she made sure that Charro wouldn't get in the way.
After Emiliano was arrested again, he faced trial for the murder of the three children. His trusted associate, Javier, defended him in court. He explained that Emiliano would never do anything that could harm his children, and that what happened at the party was simply an accident. Yes, there was negligence on Emiliano's part, but even if he had secured the structure, the wind was so strong that morning that it would have blown the bouncy castle away anyway. As much as he sympathized with the parents of the deceased children, Javier believed that Emiliano had very little to do with the tragedy. The weather forecast hadn't predicted a storm, and even the oldest residents couldn't remember experiencing such strong winds. The judge announced that Emiliano was sentenced to two years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter of the victims, without bail. After her husband's arrest, Daniela contacted Yola. She gave her the passports and visas that she and her children would need to travel to the United States. Yola hadn't expected Emiliano to keep his end of the bargain, especially after she had betrayed him. She had always thought that rich people only cared about themselves, and while that was partly true, Emiliano turned out to be a decent man. Before leaving, Daniela gave Yola's son the tablet that Rodrigo had used. Finally, Yola and her children moved to the United States, and she hoped that their lives would be better there.
In the ending of The Accident, we discover that Charro had shot David. He had always wanted revenge on him for sleeping with his wife. David's body was never found after Charro ordered his men to bury him deep in the abandoned plot of land where they had planned to build the amusement park. And what happened to the business? Ironically, the land turned out to be an archaeological site after the discovery of some artifacts. The American investment was withdrawn, and the entire business plan fell apart. Daniela thought it was poetic justice, given that her husband had prioritized a business call over the safety of the children at the party. Although Emiliano and Charro ended up in the same prison, he believed they were very different in how they dealt with their loss.
