A new image reveals a steamy moment from Wish You Were Here. The upcoming romance film is the directorial debut of 10 Things I Hate About You star Julia Stiles. It stars Isabelle Fuhrman (who previously collaborated with Stiles as co-stars on the cast of Orphan: First Kill) as a young woman who has an affair with a character played by Mena Massoud (who played the title character in 2019’s Aladdin) before learning that he has a terminal illness and attempting to help him come to terms with the final days of his life. The supporting cast also includes Kelsey Grammer and Jennifer Grey.
The image is from a scene where the duo are outside and seemingly about to kiss. Fuhrman’s character has her back against the wall of what appears to be an alley as Massoud’s character approaches her. While there is a slight smile on Fuhrmann's lips, the connection between them appears intense and serious.
Director: Julia Stiles
Writers: Julia Stiles, Renée Carlino
Stars: Isabelle Fuhrman, Mena Massoud, Gabby Kono-Abdy
The new image is quite similar to the shot used for the movie's poster. However, there is one key difference. The Wish You Were Here poster image is an alternate shot that shows the duo with more space between them and Isabelle Fuhrman looking up into Mena Massoud's eyes. In the actual still from the scene, her eyes are locked on him as they stand at roughly the same level, with their lips much closer to touching.
This new image offers a lot more insight into the co-stars' on-screen connection. While Mena Massoud has appeared in his share of recent romantic films, including Netflix's The Royal Treatment and Freevee's Hotel for the Holidays, this image shows how the movie is set to be the steamiest one yet for the Aladdin star. While his recent work has leaned toward wholesome romantic comedies, Wish You Were Here has a streak of passion running through it that accentuates the heartwarming melodrama at its core.
While it's not yet known what the ending of Wish You Were Here will be, it sounds like it will be a classic tearjerker, regardless of whether or not Massoud's character survives. While tearjerkers or melodramatic romances have been fairly common over the years, they've come back to prominence in theaters after a recent hiatus, with titles like Blake Lively's blockbuster It Ends with Us and A24's popular We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.
