The 8th Day 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

The 8th Day, a gripping crime thriller set in Texas, follows two thugs, a desperate young woman, and a dark secret that unravels in a small town. Directed by Alexandra Chando, this indie gem promises a fresh take on the heist genre.

"If I can't open it, will you kill me?" "Deal." Vertical has released the official trailer for the independent film The 8th Day, a crime thriller set in West Texas. Formerly known as "And on the Eighth Day," it's being released in theaters and VOD this month for everyone to see. Two small-time thugs, an elderly woman harboring a dark secret, a young woman desperate to escape, and a check-cashing store full of cash will cross paths in a small Texas town over the course of eight days. This marks the directorial debut of actress Alexandra Chando.

Director: Alexandra Chando
Writer: Suzanne Weinert
Stars: Darren Mann, Phoebe Tonkin, Mustafa Speaks

She explains that this small film revolutionizes the heist genre and tells a story from a female perspective. The idea that greed sometimes significantly influences our decisions leads each strong-willed character on a journey toward an unexpected goal. The independent film stars Darren Mann, Phoebe Tonkin, Mustafa Speaks, Valerie Mahaffey, Lindsey Morgan, and Tanner Beard. It's not exactly the most original plot, but it still seems compelling enough to watch.

When two men from Chicago travel to West Texas to find thief Landon Mooney and recover the stolen $150,000, they get more than they bargained for in this modern-day crime thriller. They meet Eve (Phoebe Tonkin), a young woman desperate to get out of the city and find Landon Mooney. When Landon tells them the money is missing, they hatch a plan to rob the local check cashier, where all hell breaks loose. The Eighth Day, also known as "And on the Eighth Day," is directed by American actress, producer, and filmmaker Alexandra Chando, making her feature film directorial debut after directing several short films. The script is by Suzanne Weinert and produced by Janice Beard, Melissa Kirkendall, and Suzanne Weinert.

The Eighth Day, the feature film directorial debut of actress and filmmaker Alexandra Chando, promises to offer a raw, female-dominated take on the classic heist thriller. With a tension-filled trailer and a cast led by Phoebe Tonkin (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals), this independent film is already turning heads.

Set in the unforgiving landscape of West Texas, The Eighth Day follows two small-time Chicago criminals seeking to recover $150,000 stolen by a thief named Landon Mooney. What begins as a simple search for money quickly spirals into chaos when they cross paths with Eve (Phoebe Tonkin), a young woman desperate to escape her dead-end life. When Landon reveals the money is missing, the trio hatches a risky plan to rob a local check-cashing establishment. But, as the trailer teases, things don't go as planned, and chaos ensues.

Phoebe Tonkin shines as Eve, bringing a raw intensity to her role as a woman caught between survival and self-destruction. Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom) and Mustafa Speaks (The Wire) play the clumsy but dangerous thugs, while Valerie Mahaffey (Dead to Me) and Lindsey Morgan (The 100) round out the supporting cast. The film marks Alexandra Chando's feature directorial debut, and she clearly aims to make a statement. Chando, known for her roles in As the World Turns and The Lying Game, brings a fresh perspective to the heist genre, imbuing it with what she calls the "female gaze."

At its core, The 8th Day is a story about greed and desperation, and how these forces can drive people to make life-changing decisions. Chando's direction promises to revolutionize the heist genre, focusing not on the mechanics of the crime, but on the emotional and psychological impact it has on the characters. The film also explores themes of female empowerment, with Eve as the emotional linchpin of the story.

A Minecraft Movie 2025 Movie Review Trailer Poster

If you were to throw a bucket in Hollywood today, you could easily find a dozen video game adaptations in development, either as TV series or movies. They're all vying for the same thing: critical acclaim, huge box office revenue, or a sudden surge in streaming subscribers thanks to established fandoms. But it's a long shot: Will they become a "Borderlands" movie flop or a "Last of Us" hit? Next month, Legendary Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Microsoft are going for box office gold with a different kind of game-to-movie adaptation: "A Minecraft Movie." Director: Jared Hess Writers: Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener Stars: Jennifer Coolidge, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers For the uninitiated, Microsoft-owned "Minecraft" is a sandbox game that immerses players in the Overworld, a whimsical dimension made up of blocky, box-like voxels. There's no single story or single way to play: users can craft items, build structures, ba...

The Hunting Wives 2025 Tv Series Review Trailer Poster

Netflix has become a haven for shows about small towns rocked by crime. Last week, we premiered Untamed, where the residents of a town in Yosemite National Park became embroiled in a murder mystery after a girl fell from El Capitan. The show dealt heavily with grief, suicidal tendencies, abusive men, and the colonialists' negative feelings toward the Indigenous community. The Glass Dome told the story of a criminal psychologist who returned to her hometown to attend her stepmother's funeral and found herself involved in investigating a series of murders seemingly connected to her past.  Hound's Hill centered on a Polish author who returned to his hometown to come to terms with a crime he may have committed, only to discover that a serial killer is on the loose, killing the perpetrators—and his name could be next on the list. So, yes, when I watched The Hunting Wives, I completely understood why Netflix bought the rights to this show. What confuses me is, who is this series ...
