The ending of My Dearest Nemesis is sweet, romantic, and perfectly happy. The K-drama, based on the popular manhwa of the same name, tells the story of a working-class woman from a family and a chaebol heir to one of South Korea's largest companies. While it may seem like your typical K-drama, Su-Jeong is also 5 years older than Ju-Yeon, and they have a past that's a little hard to overcome. When Su-Jeong was in middle school, she played a video game for her brother to win because she didn't want her family to lose.
However, while playing the game, Su-Jeong met a group of people she really liked and became friends. However, the one she liked the most was a boy named Black Dragon, who was in middle school but cheated on Su-Jeong because he liked her back. When they finally met in person, she publicly humiliated him for scamming her. Thus began their hateful story; However, as adults, they don't recognize each other, and it turns out Ju-Yeon is Su-Jeong's boss (wow!). Will they have a happy ending and forgive each other? Let's find out in the finale of My Dearest Nemesis.
Stars: Moon Ga-young, Choi Hyun-wook, Im She-mi
In episode 11 of My Dearest Nemesis, Su-Jeong is offered a job in the United States due to the scandal surrounding her relationship with Ju-Yeon. Su-Jeong is the type to always fight for what's right, rather than fly under the radar just to be treated better at work. To everyone around her, this seems like a good opportunity, as Su-Jeong would be mistreated by the public, her company, and more, since she's with the company's next successor.
After hearing everything her colleagues are saying, Ju-Yeon tells Su-Jeong at the beginning of the final episode that she should leave because it's a good opportunity for her. It almost sounds like a breakup because he tells her he won't hurt her, etc.; However, it's when we talk to his secretary that we realize he intends to follow her. You see, Ju-Yeon has only worked hard all his life to earn his grandmother's love. Not to become the next successor, or to become the company's director, or anything like that.
It seems Su-Jeong knows exactly how Ju-Yeon feels, because she pretends to be moving his things out of his house, but she's actually planning a surprise for him at hers. Yes, in this case, only the intention counts, because God knows his cooking skills aren't enough. But then he tells her he doesn't plan to move because he likes his place in Yongsung. But he does tell her that if he doesn't get offered a good position in the future, he might consider leaving.
Now, Su-Jeong has worked hard all his life to help his father and, basically, be the breadwinner for the family. But now that his father has made some money (which we'll talk about later), he can live his life more freely. Su-Jeong's father tells her that she doesn't have to be a burden to her anymore. She tells him that he was never a burden, and that he and her brother were a motivation to her.
Su-Jeong tells Ju-Yeon that she's visiting her mother in the columbarium, and this gets her thinking about visiting her parents too. It turns out to be the same one, and Su-Jeong becomes the first person to go to Ju-Yeon's parents' grave with him. I guess it's like their first introduction, but it turns out the day they met in person was the anniversary of Ju-Yeon's parents' death. Ju-Yeon tells Su-Jeong that back then, she felt like she was a gift from her parents; even though everything got complicated that day, now she can finally be truly grateful for the gift.
In the final episode, Ju-Yeon's grandmother asks her secretary (the same one as Ju-Yeon's) why she helped a boy so hungry for love. For her, love is a weakness that makes human beings unable to work. But this is also because she lost her son while Ju-Yeon was alive, so she always blamed him for what happened. His secretary tells him that she helped the boy with the humanity she harbored in her heart. She tells him that the love he so craved made him strong and hardworking. It motivated him to be the best version of himself (although that's a bit debatable, right?). Finally, Ju-Yeon's grandmother decides to apologize to her grandson for treating him like garbage. She tells him that she blamed herself, and I guess she needed a punching bag to feel better, so she made that punching bag for little Ju-Yeon.
In episode 11, Sin-Won, drunk and unwitting, made a public confession to Ha-Jin over the phone. To his surprise, she replied "I love you," which made him very happy. But why did Ha-Jin change her mind? I guess Ha-Jin was afraid of falling in love again because of her cheating ex-husband. It's fair to say she was cautious and nervous as a porcupine. Interestingly, Sin-Won is supposed to be a "quiet guy," and some even called him a womanizer. However, he fell madly in love with her and was willing to change.
