"The Devil Wears Prada" and "27 Dresses" screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is writing and directing Kutcher's return to romantic comedies.
Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher are best friends with a spark in the latest house-swapping rom-com.
Putting a new spin on a modern trope, "Your Place or Mine" stars Witherspoon as Debbie, the complete opposite of her old friend Peter (Kutcher). Debbie craves the routine with her son in Los Angeles, while Peter loves the changes in New York City. When they swap homes and lives for a week, the duo discover that what they think they want might not be what they really need, according to an official synopsis.
Director: Aline Brosh McKenna
Writer: Aline Brosh McKenna
Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Wesley Kimmel, Steve Zahn
“Your Place or Mine” is written and directed by “The Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses” screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. The cast is completed by Jesse Williams, Zoë Chao, Wesley Kimmel, Griffin Matthews, Rachel Bloom, Shiri Appleby, Vella Lovell, Tig Notaro and Steve Zahn.
Lead star Witherspoon produces the romantic comedy along with her partner Lauren Neustadter, writer-director McKenna, Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan.
McKenna previously told IndieWire that she "would never write anything if she didn't know the ending." The creator of the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” series founded the #FemaleFilmmakerFriday social media movement in 2018 to change stereotypical images of directors in the public eye.
“It's nice to show people that there are people out there who make their dreams come true, and that means everyone from a 12-year-old girl out in the backyard with her friends and her iPhone to people who are directing $100 million movies McKenna. saying. “We need everyone to identify and understand that there is a system in place that has prevented women from having these jobs. I think we're just beginning to really understand the number of ways that the system has been set up to not encourage, to not engage women in the system. I think these divisions have been invisible, these barriers have been invisible. I think women have always felt them and know what they are, but I think it's about people who hire by looking beyond the obvious person."
McKenna will also collaborate further with "Your Place or Mine" star and mega-producer Witherspoon on Prime Video's comedy series "All Stars," which has already garnered a two-season order. “All Stars” follows a former cheerleader from Daytona Beach (Witherspoon) who works her way up to teach cheerleading at a school on the coast of England.
“Your Place or Mine” premieres February 10 on Netflix.
